What is WTC's exact height? Somebody said it's just 300 meters. From the pictures it seems not likely 330m, but 300m is more likely.

cheap equals bad. I doubt any chinese auto ( apart from one that has done well, but not outperforming) has passed the security tests (NCAP or EURONCAP). so, yes, bad cars (of curse most of them, not all).

Back on topic,... I doubt I think there is a more boring building under construction around the world, not what I would like for the capital of china.

actually all the cars made by established brands are the same ones that are sold in NA/Euro/Aust. And many of the cars made by fully Chinese owned manufactures have passed the safety tests and are actually selling in Europe. Many more are undergoing safety tests in North America and are expecting to be put into market before the end of this decade.

To tpic, this building is designed with a mixture of european internationalism and modernist architecture. It is a style that is very popular in recent building construction. And it is usually considered very classy and timeless. Not something that will become an eye-sore when the fab is gone.

Frankly, I think the building have much more style than the postmodernism or pure internationalism that's being used in most constructions I see in North America.

Another reason why you see this building as boring would probabley due to the massive surplus of modernist buildings clustered in downtowns across the United States and Canada. That is a very good example of what looks "cool" at the time may be the right choice for looking good later.

But yes, I believe this building is very stylistic and symbolic. Its modernist features takes on the scheme of the old WTCs in NY, while its internationalism adds styleful features that advances the design of this building by 50 years.

It may not look stunning at the first glance, but it sure is very interesting to look at. The details are amazing. What's more important is how well this building blands into the exist Beijing skyline. Even with such overtaking height, the building still takes a very modest stature that is not overshadowing the surrounding area. It allows the designs of other buildings around it to stand out, while still being apart of the skyline. Contrast to places like shanghai or New York, where a small number of magnificant structures stand out, while many other buildings who are designed just as well are relatively shaded from the public attention.

I think Beijing has done a great job when it comes to city planning, they really took the entire city into consideration. Instead just making sure parts of it looks good.

I like it.

1) by established brands what do you mean?

2) In europe there are very few cars sold that come from China. There is not only a "passing" in the tests, but a "rating" (1 to 5 stars) for security, and chinese cars don't usually get more than 1-2 (many more don't get any). Ask any car engineer/ dealer/specialist and ask them about the quality of Chinese automobiles, you will find out that what I say is confermed.

back on topic:

wonderful pics, although I don't particulary like the tower...
Does anybody know how long it will tak to top it off?

I agree that China exports some shitty products. But save that for another thread. Stay on topic!
