Two 60-story towers due on river

Dual 60-story residential towers with a waterfall are proposed for choice riverfront land in the shadow of Miami Avenue Bridge.

During the city’s last building boom, three condo towers rose on a block on the north side of the Miami River in the Central Business District: The Ivy, Wind and Mint.

This latest proposal, as yet unnamed, is planned to fill in the vacant lot hugged by the existing three towers.

Details of the ambitious project were revealed Monday at a committee of the Miami River Commission. Committee members spoke favorably of the project and made suggestions to improve the riverwalk but took no formal vote.

The two towers are to rise taller than the existing towers. The new buildings will be connected at the top and bottom, with open space in the middle.

An earlier project planned for the site included one bulkier residential tower. The new proposal includes two slender towers joined in an L-shape by a podium about five stories tall, according to Iris Escarra, an attorney for the developer. Kar Miami MRP LLC is listed as the owner.

The design of the towers has them facing the river. A large waterfall would be built on the front portion of the podium levels.

“The water feature falls from the building,” Ms. Escarra said.

Plans call for 406 residences, 20 lodging units, about 30,000 square feet of commercial space and parking for 520 vehicles.

[...]

3 phases are planned, two of them for parcels outlined below:

A Slightly Closer Look at Rafael Viñoly's Miami River Tower(s)

Quote:
Plans for starchitect Rafael Viñoly's Miami River tower have been officially submitted to the City of Miami Planning Department by the developer, Kar Properties, reports the Next MIami. The design is basically two rectangular towers placed at ninety degree angles to each other and connected at the bottom and the top, with a large waterfall cascading off the podium that will give the effect that it's coming out of the building's swimming pool.

The 60-story towers "top off at a height of 779 feet." Levels 7-46 will be condo, while 56-59, which connect both buildings, will contain a mixture of residential, 20 hotel units, and a restaurant or some other kind of commercial. These levels will be connected by high speed elevators on the building's exterior. There are 402 residential units total.

The only thing that I don't like about the design of this proposal is the weird sky bridge connecting them at the top. Otherwise this project will have fantastic views of the Brickell Financial district, Biscayne Bay & the Atlantic Ocean to the southeast.

I agree that the skybridge isn't the most sightly thing but I think it accomplishes what is meant to do. First it adds a new amenity for residents and it also makes this building look a bit different than everything around it.

60-story towers due on river
Written by John Charles Robbins on April 28, 2015

Dual 60-story towers planned for the north bank of the Miami River are to include residential units and exclusive hotel rooms.
The towers would connect at the top and bottom and be open in the middle.

Plans calls for about 400 residential units, including two 5,182-square-foot penthouses that each have a terrace and pool.

The city’s Urban Development Review Board recommended approval of the project April 15.

Members asked the developer to consider making the public riverwalk a little less formal and more open. Current plans call for rows of royal palms.

The developer is Shahab Karmely, of KAR Properties of New York City. The architect is Rafael Vinoly of Rafael Vinoly Architects of New York City.

The project site is a familiar one, right next to the South Miami Avenue Bridge.
The vacant parcel is hugged by three condo towers that rose during the last building boom: The Ivy, Wind and Mint.

Along with the hundreds of new condos, the 56th floor will be home to 20 lodging units, 10 in each building.

The 57th floor is set aside for nearly 30,000 square feet of commercial space.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

* Now we have to see if the FAA approves the height for these towers.

This one's pretty cool. I think the skybridge makes it distinctive.

FAA approved: http://www.thenextmiami.com/index.ph...-september-10/

Quote:
One River Point was approved this week by the FAA and will launch sales within two weeks.

Uruguayan architect Rafael Viñoly’s design for the twin towers calls for a height of 928 feet above ground, or 933 feet above sea level. That is taller than any other completed or under-construction residential tower in Miami.

Miami seems to be having a boom! hopefully all these awesome towers really go U/C. This skybridge is just so cool as well. Not long ago I was still kidding at how the "Miami of China" (Xiamen) is leaving Miami totally in the dust in terms of skyline, but now MIami is hitting back!
