When the Dubrovnik airport will be done it will have a 5 million passenger terminal with 36.000sqm of space!

From 1998. to 2005. the airport received next upgrades:
--reconstruction of international terminal building
--reconstruction of runway pavement
--reconstruction of concrete slabs at apron and taxiways
--bus parking with 33 bus stands, and additional 150 car parking
stands

From 2005. to 2007. there are plans for this:
--new terminal,7 gates + 4 passenger bridges
--new apron organization and extension to the east
--new fuel service
--covering of bus parking
--new building of the airport police

Dubrovnik had a 150% increase in traffic from 400.000 in 2000. to 1.080.000 in 2005.!
Further increase will be about 10-15%

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Split airport had 930.000 passengers in 2005.

In 2004. that figure was 790.000,and in 2006. we expect 1.070.000 passengers!

* when doing this assessments (way back in 2004) I was bit to pessimistic in my figures for Zadar, Pula and Rijeka Airports I do admit this, and therefore this figures might undermine real numbers and growth of especially Rijeka Airport which is bingeing to attract major low-cost carriers, Easy Jet and Ryan Air are likely operators to land at this airport in near future..

PPS, I have no figures for Osijek Airport,

Published:2006. 01. 10.

Wizz Air, the largest low fare - low cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, announced at a press conference in Zagreb today that it would start flights from Zagreb to London on 27 March 2006. The airline becomes the first low fare airline to fly between the UK and Croatia.

The launch in Croatia comes after Wizz Air announced its passenger numbers for 2005. The airline carried close to 1.9 million passengers last year, which represents a 233% growth and makes Wizz Air the largest low fare - low cost airline in CEE.

Zagreb-London flights will commence on 27 March 2006, 4 times a week initially. Tickets for the flights are already on sale on the airline's website, wizzair.com. or by calling the Wizz Air call centre on +48 22 351 94 99. Regular one way fares start from as low as EUR 42.99 / GBP 32.46 including taxes and charges. As an introductory offer a limited number of seats are available at a promotional fare of EUR 32.99 / GBP 26.46 (including taxes and charges) till 31 January 2006.

József Váradi, Chief Executive Officer of Wizz Air said:
"Entering the Croatian market is a strategic step for us on our way of expanding in Central and Eastern Europe. We will be the first low fare airline to offer continuously low prices to travellers between the UK and Croatia. We are determined to further expand and develop our Croatian network for the benefit of more Croatian people and those who wish to visit this beautiful country. We plan to carry well over 100,000 passengers from and to Croatia in 2006."

Sometimes in April or May land clearing starts, Air force needs to hand over the land, I think they did, terminal construction should start either in late May or early July depending how fast the land clearance is done...

I wish I could know what are the Air Forces plans as of now.

Where are all those MiG-s and Mi-24-s going? Zadar? Pula?

helicopters are going to Lucko, Mill 24 as well, most Mil 8 and Mil 24 going to be scraped and stored, all of them, 10 Mill 8 going to continue to serve on for few more years when MOD decide on replacements. Most likely according to Flight International Insiders Croatia is going to opt for 20-30 NH90 helicopters, at 15€ million apiece they aren't cheep but are modern, much better fuel consumption and better support, NH90 have also greater range, carries same number of troops as Mil 8 but has state of the art cockpit (can fly at night to).

Mil 24 hind won't get replaced, Croatia might get 6-8 Tigers or AH64D sometimes in next decade but as it is now, Mil 24 face cutbacks and retirement. As for Mig 21, all 12 are being moved to Zadar, until the arrival of 12-24 modern fighters with longer range they are what's left of Croatian Air Arm... New aircraft won't be procured before 2010 anyway, 12 JAS39Gripen are most likely choice, cost of 12 Aircraft should not be over 500 million U$ including spares and weapons... Gripen has a range of 1200km without fuel tanks and 1800km with extra fuel tank, most likely Bosnia is going to sign treaty with Croatian on Croatian Air Cover over Bosnia, once Gripens arrive, which should help with the cost of Gripen fleet.

New helicopter purchase might be tied with Slovenian helicopter purchase as well...

No!

They will buy 20 Mi-17-s!

Some Russian dept return agreement.

This dept was supposed to be settled with Be-200 fire-planes but they changed it to Mi-17,a succesor of the Mi-8.

Mill 17 where a possibility, but nobody knows what is going to happened with this deal, NH90 in any case are part of modernisation plan and if Croatia does get Mil17 they'll just be filling holes, Croatia needs about 30-32 Medium sized transport helicopters, 8 ASW helicopters and 4-6 SAR helicopters..

12 Bell 206 are only used in Training role, in utility role there are none, and 4MD500 are used for recognisance and need to be upgraded and updated, 6 Bell 212 are now used in SAR and Police role they also need replacement quite soon as well...

Medical Evac needs at least 3-4 helicopters as well...

In all Croatia needs about 50-56 new helicopters over next 10 years... Croatia will retire all but 4 MD500 and 10Bell 206 helicopters currently in service, Bell206 already have been transferred to Police...

to recap:

8ASW Helicopters (probably AS 535 Panthers -cheapest option)
6SAR helicopters (NH90 or AS 532 Cougar)
30-32 Transport and Utility Helicopters (Mix NH90 and Mil8/17)
8-12 Training helicopters (Bell 206)
6-8 Ops Helicopters (NH90 or similar)
4-6 Recon Helicopters (MD500)
6-8 Attack Helicopters (AH64 or Tigers)

total: 88 Helicopters at most...

Air Adriatic in deep trouble,

Since the start of Air Operations Air Adriatic has proved to be quite unconventional in its approach to Air Travel and Air Safety.

From occasional fights between Pilots and mechanical and support staff, or drunken pilots and flight attendants with poor hygiene Air Adriatic has seen it all and more.

Air Adriatic started flight operations in 2004 with 2 ex All Italia MD82's, soon 4 more MD82's joined. Airline at first was quite successful at attracting highly lucrative charter operations between Pula, Rijeka and EU. Air Adriatic during summer could fill all its flights with no seats to spare, passengers where happy and staff, well they promised things would get better once the airline is set and organised, after all new start-ups have difficulties at the start. So would you think, after 3 years of operations Airline is doing better than ever, everyone is happy, pilots are paid there dues, mechanics are doing brilliant job at keeping aircrafts in the air, all bills are paid, passengers are coming in there drowse and all bill are being paid on time....

Not exactly, well, where do we start OK, lets start with most important ppl in the Airline, Pilots (OK, they think they are ) you'd think Airline which is based and flies from Croatian Airports would employ Croatian pilots, at least majority of pilots, you'd be completely wrong, out of 40 or so pilots that work at Air Adriatic only 4-5 are Croatian.

OK, there might have been few exemptions, perhaps there aren't enough pilots who are accustomed to fly MD82 so naturally Air Adriatic would look somewhere else to fill the holes, ok suppose this was a hypothetical, I'd tell you this, you are completely wrong Mr Cubric, and you can always train pilots by giving those that have some experience flying MD82 position of a co-pilot for few years when he/she are ready to take over as a captain.

This is too complicated even for Air Adriatic, they came with one better. Lets pay dirt cheep everyone who works for us, or how about not paying them at all, yeah I'll do that, how about we don't pay anyone, well we can't do that, can we? This is exactly what Deja Cubric did to almost every Croatian Pilot and Croatian staff at the Air Adriatic, he felt they would be happy to work for peanuts or free lunch, perhaps few Kuna after all, they are there to exploit Mr. Cubric's good will and his willingness to grace us with his talents...

OK, ok, I know this is kind of one sided argument, perhaps there are real reasons why he hasn't paid his Croatian staff, one we don't know, well we might not get it out of Mr. Cubric's mouths as he has just bought him self a new Ferrari, he is long gone and his secretary can't speak on his behest, it would be pointless as she wasn't paid either .

So what is going on, Adriatic Air hasn't paid its Croatian staff for months, there must be some good reason, I wouldn't work for peanuts, I'm not elephant, are you, Mr Cubric, you, yes you Mr Cubric, are you an elephant?

So what's the hold up, ok, never mind, I'm sure you'll come with some plausible answer in 54-60 years, anyways' I assume all airlines have issues, your airline perhaps is victim of poor communication (on your part Mr. Cubric) or bad economic and political soundings, Croatian Tourism has never been better, you bribed HDZ government to give you flight licence and you have most of the CAA in your pocket, oh about surroundings it was a metaphor, don't take it seriously silly man...

Ok, so much criticism I'm sure you have some better things to do, but before you go Mr. Cubric, would you gives us few fine examples of Air Adriatic success?

OK, let me help you, you are not paying your staff and pilots, which means you got enough money to pay for landing, over-flights, fuel and mechanical support?

What, what do you mean you don't bother with this kind anomalous issues, how do you keep your aircraft in the air Mr. Cubric?
OK, so you owe money to every single airport in Croatia, you are not welcomed in Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik and in Rijeka you are persona none grate, oh 2 of your aircrafts are stuck on Dubrovnik Airport until you pay 2.4 million Kuna you owe to the Airport, and one more is stuck in Dubai you say, for same reasons, wow...

But you do keep your aircraft in top-notch shape and condition after all this are old aircraft need to be kept in excellent condition, after all air safety is one of the most important aspects of Airline Business, what, what did you say, Mr Cubric, you haven't paid you mechanics as well, your aircraft have very basic check up from time to time, and often you have technical difficulties with your aircraft, so much so Italian and French FAA have forbid you to fly in to there air-space.

I get by, I employ cheapest possible staff from 3rd world who barely speak any English, and have basic qualifications, for rest I'll do as best I can...

With all this mess how you are allowed/able to fly is beyond me?
My dear friend, who needs to fly when you drive a Ferrari

Mr, Cubric is Owner of Adriatic Air, and major Arsehole in this part of universe, I'll stop here, I'm sure you can come with your own profanities about Mr. Cubric but in case you need help call Air Adriatic and ask them what they think of there boss

Sorry had no time to finish this article in proper and dignified manner, anyone willing to give help plz do not hesitate to write anything you feel I missed in my article, thanx...
