well, this hotel is ridiculous somehow!
i have been there on my way back from mussandam andi was deeply disappointed. it doesn't stand the dubai standards at all and the biggest problem is:

WHATCHA WANNA DO OUT THERE???????????????????????

around it there is NOTHING anf the hotel doesn't offer anything

when i was there the weather was bad, like all winter long and there was the big wave flooding the whole beach and the resort itself and it was cold. as a result the hotel lobby was overcrowded with depressed people not knowing what to do!

the complex itself is still under construction, the golf course should have been finished way earlier but nothing happened. this is a wannabe dubai project!

oh yes, apart from the project being an eternal construction site, the hotel management seems to be a catastrophe!
we actually wanted to have lunch there but thank god it all restaurants were so crowded (due to the bad weather and the only choice to eat is in the hotel). so we just had a drink and the service was aweful!! some of them (if not all of them) don't speak english. i just wanted to have a 7up and it was challenging to explain it to him!!

anyway: it was the day of the jebel ali airport city launch so i chilled and read the article in the gulf news, while having my 7up!

btw: what is the very first impression of a hotel when you're right in front of it? yes, the main entrance! ok, let's stop here

Ras Al Khaimah govt launches RAK Properties

23 March 2005

DUBAI – The Government of Ras Al Khaimah's Investment and Development Office (IDO) has announced the establishment of a new real estate development company, RAK Properties, to implement the emirate's plans to promote real estate, tourism and leisure facilities.

The company's founders, including the Government of Ras Al Khaimah, will hold 45 per cent of the company's share capital, while the remaining 55 per cent will be offered in an initial public offering, details of which will be announced shortly, with the public offering open from March 30 to April 12.

“RAK Properties will maximise shareholder value by developing coastal and inland Ras Al Khaimah through land, communities and mortgage facilities,” said the IDO's chief executive, Dr. Izzat Dajani.

The Government of Ras Al Khaimah is providing 72 hectares of free land for the development of the creek-side Mangrove Island Project, as well as a further 150 hectares in the Khor Qurm beach area and the new Emirates Highway for the second phase of expansion. RAK Properties will develop certain components of these projects, and will also sell or lease rights to outside investors to oversee other components.

In the long run, RAK Properties also envisages the creation of a finance / mortgage subsidiary to help potential homebuyers purchase their property.

Incorporated in 2000, the RAK Free Trade Zone has licensed over 400 companies from 33 countries. Saqr Port is undergoing a Dh165 million upgrade to increase cement and bulk handling capacity while Ras Al Khaimah International Airport is witnessing enhanced activity.

The new Emirates Highway, planned to bring travel times to Dubai down to under 50 minutes, is scheduled for completion in the second half of 2005.

The first freehold property development in the emirate, the Dh1 billion Al Hamra Village, already sold off a large number of units only months after its launch, is scheduled to be completed in 2006.

Some 1,200 residential units, from studios to luxury villas, built by the Al Hamra Property Development Company, have attracted investors both locally and internationally.

Al Hamra project begins

Ras Al Khaimah: The foundation stone for the Dh300 million Al Hamra Palace Hotel on Ras Al Khaimah's coast was laid yesterday.

Shaikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Ras Al Khaimah Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler, laid the stone to mark the start of construction work on the new hotel.

The hotel will combine traditional Arab architecture with the latest construction methods, said Dr Khatter Massaad, Shaikh Saud's tourism adviser.

The architecture of the hotel is intended to recreate the visual effect of an Arabic palace, said Maurizio Papiri, designer of the hotel.

The hotel will become operational in 24 months, Dr Massaad said. Its ground floor will cover 15,000 square metres. The hotel and its associated grounds will encompass 130,000 square metres, he said.

The hotel will boast services and amenities including five restaurants, an 18-hole golf course, a shopping arcade housing international brands, a wedding and meeting area with capacity for up to 1,000 people, health clubs and a business centre.

The 15th floor of the hotel will be dedicated to 37 luxury suites with direct access, known as the Al Hamra Club, the adviser said.

A highly qualified and well trained technical team has been brought together to work on the hotel, Dr Massaad said.

The new hotel aims to meet the needs of both tourists and businessmen by providing a wide range of advanced technological services, he said.

The large areas set aside for the development of the hotel's infrastructure provide evidence of the painstaking attention that has gone into the planning process, Dr Massaad said.

The hotel's parking area will, for example, cover 25,000 square metres, he said.

Ras Al Khaimah's growing tourism industry requires more hotel rooms as the current number is insufficient, given the number of visitors coming to the emirate, he said.

Sheikh Saud lays foundation stone for AED 300m Al Hamra Palace Hotel

H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, laid the foundation stone for the Al Hamra Palace Hotel, which will be part of the ambitious Al Hamra Village Project coming up in Ras Al Khaimah.

H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, laying the foundation stone for the Al Hamra Palace Hotel in Ras Al Khaimah on Monday.

The 400-room luxury hotel will be built in the Al Jazeerah Al Hamra area along the RAK coastline at an estimated cost of AED 300 million.

Speaking after laying the foundation stone for the hotel last evening, Sheikh Saud said that the new hotel is part of the comprehensive developmental boom currently witnessed in RAK.

The new hotel is expected to redefine the concept of luxury and will enhance the tourism appeal of the emirate in a big way. Designed by renowned Italian architect, Maurizio Papiri, the project combines the distinctive splendour and opulence of traditional Arabic architecture and the slick sophistication to meet modern day needs. The hotel is expected to have a designation higher than 5-star hotel standards and will be completed in two years.

Briefing media persons after the ceremony, Dr. Khater Massaad, Advisor to the RAK Crown Prince, said that the project is designed to be a `dream hotel', which will be unique in several aspects. 'It will have 600 metres of stunning beachside and all the rooms will be overlooking either the azure of the sea or the 18-hole international golf course to be built near the site', he said.

The hotel is built on a ground floor area of 15,000 sq. metres with a total built-up area exceeding 130,000 sq. metres. It will have 22 floors and the total height is set at 116 metres. The minimum room size in the hotel will be 72 sq. metres. The hotel will also have three royal suites and 20 executive suites.

Architect Maurizio Papiri, who has designed architectural landmarks like Grand Hotel, Rome, said that the Al Hamra Palace will reflect the richness and grandeur of Arabian and Islamic Architecture.

The presence of an imposing tower in the centre of the hotel and two domes on either side are the focal points of the hotel design. One of the domes will house a world class conference hall with a capacity to accommodate 1000 people while the other will have an 800-seat wedding hall.

The hotel will have ultra-modern facilities including five restaurants, a shopping arcade housing outlets of international brands, all located on the ground floor designed in ancient archway architecture. It will also have a number of health clubs, a spa, business centre and swimming pools.

The hotel is part of the Al Hamra Village Project, an exclusive sea- side luxury residential and leisure development undertaken by the Al Hamra Real Estate Development Company. The Al Hamra Village Project, scheduled for completion in 2006, will also have 1,350 residential units including luxury villas, elegant duplexes, deluxe town houses and premium apartments, apart from a 150 berth marina and private beaches.

Sheikh Saud also visited the villas and residential units at the Al Hamra Village after the foundation stone laying ceremony. He also inspected the new porcelain factory and the expansion works of the nearby RAK Ceramics factory.

Sheikh Faisal bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of RAK Finance Department, Sheikh Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of RAK International Airport, Sheikh Muhammad bin Kayed Al Qasimi, Vice Chairman of RAK Economic Department, and a number of sheikhs and officials were present at the function.
