Currently under construction in Toronto

This one is going to be a rental building, its not a facadectomy so to speak, but they're incorporating the heritage building for use as a lobby.

This one is also under construction, and again- the facade/ building will be used as a lobby entrance

This one is just proposed, we'll see if it goes ahead.

directly across the street is this one,

Awful. For me, such constructions just do not work.

Since I'm well versed in Toronto, I'll post some more projects.

This was an old 1960's theatre front that for some reason was saved and intergrated into a condo tower

This old warehouse building will become the base of MORE condo buildings..

This one is not very graceful... called: "Condos of The Royal Canadian Military Institute"

There's this addition/re-use of an old building for a hospital frontage as well, which was done a while ago

This one is almost done... more condos. It's called "King+ Condos"

This one is..... not as bad? I think? more condos. its called: "Burano Condos"

from a few years ago, "King's Court Condos"

One Bedford Condos, They actually preserved this facade, but moved it to a courtyard off the main street.... it's... odd.

An office building is under construction at the moment, taking over and adding onto a group of pretty red brick homes..

This cute old art deco car-dealership front was incorporated into the current "Thompson Hotel and Residences"

From Brooklyn, I like this addition, its not too overwhelmingly large. "The Nighthawk Cinema"

The Porter House apartment building in the meatpacking district is kinda neat..

Meatpacking District, I believe Samsung has leased this office space.

Walking at street level you get to see the details of the classic building, while from the distance the majesty of the tower. Huge towers don't look good from up close. They are much more inspiring from a distance, while detailed ornate facades look unimpressive from far, but can be stunning up close. So this is the perfect combination. We need MORE MORE MORE of this in all our cities. Classic facades at street level, even new built, with massive towers above. Brilliant!
Such a masterpiece, with out dout

Is the predominance of facadism in Toronto a result of strict preservation laws that call for buildings not necessarily "landmarked" to be incorporated into new construction...or is it the exact opposite: Are landmarked buildings counted as "preserved" even as a tower is built on top of it?

This is my favourite here in the Netherlands. Museum "De Fundatie" in Zwolle.
.

The addition on the roof opened 3 years ago, and since then the museum significantly increased in popularity and visitors numbers.
