Well, I don't think any plane can be a real competitor for this

But there's only one of them

You can't compare Russian planes designed to fly oversized cargo to American planes designed to fly parcel cargo.

Apples to oranges.

I believe a better comparison would be C5/C17 vs An124/Il76. Then break down into specifics like engines, cargo space, cargo weight, range etc.

An-124's major advantage over Galaxy would be 0.6 meters wider cargo deck.
C-17 beats Il-76 in almost every way. Keeping in mind that both are strategic military transport planes, i'd say C-17's major advantage over Ilyushin is the fact that C-17 is able to carry an Abrams MBT, while Il-76 is unable to carry even T-72 (which is smaller and lighter) without preliminary preparation.

Perhaps in performance, but only one is successful in the civilian marketplace.

Well, given the difference in terms of price, no wonder...

Аntonov-124 and Antonov-225 (biggest one) - are Soviet planes, not Ukrainian - that means they were built before Ukraine appeared as a state - some parts were produced in Russia, others in Ukraine - assembling took place both in Ukraine (Kiev) and in Russia (Ulianovsk) - those were times of Soviet Union///....After Soviet Union collapse , nor Russia nor Ukraine continued production of those because Ukraine couldn't do it without Russian help and parts....so only new and smaller Antonov planes (An-140 , An-148, An-158, An-178) that are produced now can be considered as Ukrainian....but those big An-124 and An-225 that you see on photos are ofcource not Ukrainian , but Soviet - Ukraine was never able to produce those without Russia....
By the way - it shows how USA benefited from collapse of Soviet Union and why they in USA don't want no any collaboration in betveen Russia and Ukraine - why to have competitors, right? - but it is another story not for this forum...

Title says Russian, not Soviet, so you should not include it.

You did not really compare American plane industry with hundreds of planes build every year to Soviet one with one An-225?

That'd be even less correct than comparing apples to oranges. An-225 was never ment to be a massively produced aircraft and was designed solely for the sake of Energia-Buran space program.

Russian Federation (Russian Soviet Socialist Republic) did exist within Soviet Union as one of 15 Union Republics of Soviet Union - same as Ukraine (Ukrainian Soviet Socialist republic) did exist within Soviet Union as one of 15 Union republics - so why should he not include planes that were build in Soviet Union on the teritory of Russian Federation?....by your logics then when talking about Polish or French or British production one should talk only about those things produced BEFORE Poland or Britain or France joined European Union because today that is EU production (?) but not Pollish or French or British even if it is produced on territories of Britain, France or Poland?

the thread is called : Russian versus American Cargo Planes not American aircraft industry vs. Russian aircraft industry - you can start separate thread if you want to compare those - at least it would be some practical contribution from you rather then your strange attempt to censor posters here...
