Sierra Nevada Corporation Forms New Turkish Subsidiary, TRJet, to Produce Country’s First Regional Jet

Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC), a United States-based aerospace and aviation systems company, announces the formation of its newest wholly-owned subsidiary, TRJet Havacilik Teknolojileri Anonim Şirketi (TRJet). The announcement at the Paris Air Show follows SNC’s May 27, 2015 signing of a Memorandum of Understanding involving the Savunma Teknolojileri Mühendislik ve Ticaret A.S. (STM) in support of the Turkish Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs & Communications to produce the country’s first regional jet as part of its Regional Aircraft Project.

A Turkish corporation, TRJet will be based in Ankara, Turkey, and will serve the Regional Aircraft Project as well as the commercial aviation sector. The newly launched Regional Aircraft Project utilizes the TRJ328™ aircraft, a modernized version of the Dornier 328 (D328), as a first step toward production of Turkey’s first domestically-built passenger aircraft, the TRJ628™. The TRJet subsidiary will ultimately produce and sell the TRJ328, as well as other variants, and will play an essential role in making Turkey’s first indigenous passenger aircraft a reality.

TRJet will combine the legacy of two esteemed aviation companies, SNC and 328 Support Services GmbH (328 SSG), to create an aviation and aerospace company that merges modern-edge German aircraft engineering and the latest industry modification standards. The Turkish government will capitalize on this technology, and on Dornier’s legacy of innovation dating back to the start of commercial aviation, to support the growth of Turkey’s existing civil aviation industry, as well as to open the country to the global aviation market. The 328 is currently certified in 85 countries around the world, and is in use in many countries, including the U.S., Switzerland, Germany, U.K. and Denmark.

“We believe that the combination of technology, research, collaboration and decades of experience is the right recipe for TRJet’s future success in Turkey and around the globe,” said SNC President Eren Ozmen. “We are confident that TRJet, working with our partners in Turkey, and the commitment and support of those involved in the Turkish Regional Aircraft Project, will be successful in producing aircraft that changes the face of transportation in Turkey.”

SNC has pursued international ventures for much of its 50-plus-year history and the company has had business interests in Turkey for several years. SNC’s owners, President Eren Ozmen and CEO Fatih Ozmen, are of Turkish origin and the establishment of TRJet cements their interests in the Republic of Turkey as both Ozmens take leadership roles as directors in the newly-formed company. TRJet will not only be located in-country, but will employ Turkish workers and utilize local subcontractors and vendors, contributing significantly to the region’s economy while continuing to develop the Republic of Turkey’s burgeoning civil aviation industry.

Paris Air Show 2015

Model of the TRJ328

TRJet to produce Turkey's first domestic jet

U.S based electronic systems provider and systems integrator Sierra Nevada Corp., owned by Turkish businessman Fatih Özmen, announced on Tuesday that it has formed a new Turkish company called TRJet, which will produce Turkey's first regional jet. The new company, TRJet Havacılık Teknolojileri Anonim Şirketi (TRJet) was announced at the Paris Air Show. The project is supported by the Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications Ministry with its Regional Aircraft project. Last month, Turkey selected Dornier to provide primary base models for its future regional jet program, putting the aircraft on track to join a domestic fighter jet in operation by 2023. Under the program, Turkey bought intellectual property rights for the Dornier 328 and Dornier 628 from Sierra Nevada Corp. Sierra Nevada Corp. produces integrated solutions for aerospace systems. The company signed a memorandum of understanding on May 27 with the Turkish company STM to produce the country's first regional jet.

STM will lead and coordinate all subsystem production work. Designated local subcontractors are TUSAŞ Turkish Aerospace Industries, TUSAŞ Turkish Engine Industries, military electronics specialist Aselsan, military software specialist Havelsan, private aviation companies Alp Havacılık and Kale Havacılık and THY Teknik, Turkish Airlines' maintenance and repairs subsidiary. TRJet will be based in Ankara and will serve the Regional Aircraft project as well as the commercial aviation sector.

The newly launched Regional Aircraft project utilizes the TRJ328 aircraft, a modernized version of the Dornier 328 (D328) as a first step toward production of Turkey's first domestically-built passenger aircraft, the TRJ628. The TRJet subsidiary will ultimately produce and sell the TRJ328, as well as other variants, and will play an essential role in making Turkey's first domestic passenger aircraft a reality. TRJet will combine the legacy of two esteemed aviation companies, Sierra Nevada Corp. and 328 Support Services, to create an aviation and aerospace company that merges cutting-edge German aircraft engineering and the latest industry modification standards.

The Turkish government will capitalize on this technology and on Dornier's legacy of innovation dating back to the start of commercial aviation to support the growth of Turkey's existing civil aviation industry as well as to open the country to the global aviation market.

The 328 is currently certified in 85 countries around the world and is in use in many countries including the U.S., Switzerland, Germany, U.K. and Denmark.

"Sierra Nevada Corp. has pursued international ventures for much of its 50-plus-year history and the company has had business interests in Turkey for several years. Sierra Nevada Corp.'s owners, President Eren Özmen and CEO Fatih Özmen, are of Turkish origin and the establishment of TRJet cements their interests in Turkey as both Özmens take leadership roles as directors in the newly formed company. TRJet will not only be located in-country, but will employ Turkish workers and utilize local subcontractors and vendors, contributing significantly to the region's economy while continuing to develop Turkey's burgeoning civil aviation industry," the company said in a statement. Turkey is committed to an initial order of 50 aircraft after the 328 makes its maiden flight in 2019 and the 628 in 2020.

Government ass-licking media is even reporting that several countries have ordered this airplane already! There is NO airplane to be ordered! That is prove enough that it has been used as a propaganda device shortly before the elections. The billboards are full of propaganda like "we build our own fighter jet, our high speed train, our airplane" and non of this is true. So don't lose your time on discussing an airplane that won't be built.

A few years ago the president said "we are going to have a national car brand". I guess the delay is yet finding a name.

You clearly did not studied engineering. Even in the car industry you need minimum of 4 years of enginnering, designing and testing to built the first prototypes and gain later mass production. People with no engineering background can´t expect to built a project right now ( immediately ). This is amateur behaviour ( i want to see it right now ). Cars, Planes, High Speed Trains etc need a certain time of engineering after the project is announced.

The TAI T-FX ( 5th gen stealth fighter ) just finished the design phase and the engine was choosen. In engineering there is a certain time table to finish a project. The high-speed train is under development and in august 2015
the first prototype of the domestic car will be produced and later a calling will be made for domestic car producers to built this car in mass production.

Turkey is building his own tank, his own fighter helicopter, pilot trainer, unmanned air drone etc. Less countries in the world can built this. These also were projects which were succesfully finished

And this projects have nothing to do with the goverment. Sierra Nevada Cooperation and Savunma Teknolojileri Mühendislik ( STM ) together with their subcontractors TAI,Aselsan,Havelsan, Turkish Airlines Technic have signed a deal.

Sierra Nevada and its Turkish partner STM have established a new company to build updated versions of the Dornier 328 and 328Jet in Turkey.

TRJet will be based in Ankara and produce both models of the aircraft. It will also begin design and development of a new 60- 70-seat aircraft – dubbed TRJ628 – which is due to fly in 2023. This is in line with the Turkish government’s national regional jet program, launched by the Turkish Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications on May 28.

I like the idea of Turkey building this TRJ and using their own technology and manpower. TRJ 328 would be a good aircraft for military use. Be it Army, Air Force, Navy or Coast Guard. Even the TRJ 328 can do flights to STOL airports. There are alot of countries who have STOL airports but they inaccessible cause there are only bigger aircrafts. Easy to fill up a 30+ seater plane. And TRJ 628 would be a good aircraft for domestic use to carry passengers to some of regional airports. Cheers Turkey!

Turkey’s indigenous regional jet project faces local production ‘crisis’

Turkey’s indigenous regional jet project faces local production ‘crisis’
The TRJet program to build Turkey's first indigenous regional jet faces problems as the U.S.-based Sierra Nevada Corp. (SNC), a partner in the jet program, has been asked to produce at least 70 percent of the jet's parts in Turkey by the Undersecretariat for the Defense Industry (SSM), according to company representatives, noting that a final agreement has been not inked yet.

The TRJet program was first launched in a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu just 10 days before the June elections, but the project already has obstacles. The SSM has asked that 70 percent of the plane parts be made in Turkey by SNC, which has undertaken the project. This, however, is not possible, according to company representatives.

"It is now asked from us to meet the target of 70 percent of local production in the project. It is very difficult to meet this target. The aircraft engine and the electronic systems already constitute most of the parts of the aircraft, and all of them are produced abroad. This should be applied not for the TRJ328 with the capacity of 32 passengers, which needs to be produced at the first stage and to be submitted in three years, but for the TRJ628 with the capacity of 70 passengers, which is planned to be submitted until 2023," said company chairwoman and president, Eren Özmen.

The TRJ328 and the TRJ628 will be based on Dornier 328 and Dornier 628, respectively.

"This is $1.5 billion-worth of business. The acquisition of Dornier's intellectual property rights, the production of 50 new TRJ328s and the first design of TRJ628" said company CEO Fatih Özmen.

NO 'FİNAL AGREEMENT' YET

However, Fatih Özmen has made a critical point about the project. "In the launch ceremony in May, we signed only a memorandum of understanding with Turkish government and Turkish defense company STM, a majority of which is owned by the government, with the support of Prime Minister Davutoğlu." The required decision was made in June 2015 by the Defense Industries Execution, according to Fatih Özmen. In the case that "Turkey says 'no' to the deal, we'll say we have acquired a good company, Dornier, despite some investment losses," he noted.

He said the agreement is planned to be signed this year.

"I hope there will be no change in plans. We want to say this is not a political project. I mean politics have an effect, of course, but this is mainly Turkey's project," he added.

"We consider this investment in a long-term perspective, not in short-term. We also view what will be contribution to the economy. The contribution of aviation to economy is calculated as one-to-seven, when high technologies and training dimensions are included into the equation. This project is a historic move that will make great contribution to making Turkey one of the world's 10 biggest economies," Eren Özmen said.

However, she added, "The point is to make this project in global standards…Turkey needs to make a decision here: Does it want to produce its indigenous airplane or a global airplane? There is not anything that is 100 percent local in this sector…Even Boeing does not produce everything by itself. On the contrary, many different parts are used in its new 787 from many parts of the world."

She noted the main priority for the SSM as ensuring national control.

"In case of any war outbreak, the SSM wants to have local means to be able to control its economics. It does produce parts and doesn't need any certification. The certification, however, matters for us. If we will sell this airplane on the global scale, we need to think about its certification," she noted.

Fatih Özmen said their company has focused on three priorities in the project: Certification, market choice and branding.

"First of all, as Dornier doesn't have any certification problem and we can use its engineering infrastructure with SNC," with Turkey having the technological rights as well. He added, "We have set a suitable competition field by targeting the production of a new regional jet for markets with 4,000 airplanes and a capacity of 30-70 passengers, for which there is not any big producer in the world." Dornier's established name would help Turkey sell its regional brand in the global markets, he said, adding, "Besides, Dornier has widespread parts and logistics support networks, which will provide great opportunity to us."

The idea for a Turkish jet was first introduced by then-PM Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in May 2013 during a trip to San Francisco. "He then asked for our help in meeting Turkey's target to produce a local airplane. We then started to talk about this issue… An ambitious and quick-to-proceed program was made in October 2014 when Lütfi Elvan was transport minister," said Fatih Özmen, with the acquisition of Dornier completed in February 2015.

Political stunt, no real chance of success. There is no market for it anyway.

Pratt&Whitney 306B Turbofans will be used for the TRJET328

Quote:
TRJet to Team with Pratt & Whitney Canada on New, Improved
306B Engines

BERLIN (Oct. 14, 2015) – In the latest step forward for creation of Turkey’s first regional aircraft, TRJet announced an agreement on plans to use Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) to upgrade and supply PW306B engines for TRJet aircraft. The memorandum of understanding involves Sierra Nevada Corporation’s (SNC) German-based subsidiary 328 Support Services GmbH (328), the current type certificate holder and a major partner in TRJet’s 328 aircraft production.

“The collaboration between TRJet and P&WC, a world-leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines, illustrates the proven technology and aviation expertise behind the 328 and 628 aircraft series,” said Cem Ugur, an executive officer for TRJet.

Work on the PW306B for the TRJet 32-passenger 328 aircraft series will commence at P&WC’s Longueuil, Quebec facility in 2016, kicking off a production schedule that will culminate in production and flight of the first TRJ328™ aircraft by 2019. During this time, work will also be underway on a turboprop engine for the T328 aircraft.

Design activities will be initiated in parallel for the new 628 aircraft series. This aircraft will be a clean sheet design, marking the Republic of Turkey’s first domestically-designed passenger airplane. The first flight of the 628 series is anticipated for 2023, in honor of Turkey’s centennial.

The D328 is currently certified in 85 nations around the world and is in use in countries including the U.S., Switzerland, Germany, U.K. and Denmark. The versatile and rugged 328 turboprop and jet, with its large cabin comfort, is credited within the industry as a valued, cost-effective performer.

Both SNC and P&WC believe that TRJet will meet a regional need and benefit the local economy. “Extensive market studies show that these aircraft are not only needed for Turkey’s domestic market, but there are growing regional and international demands where the sub-50-seat market is underserved,” said Dave Jackson, managing director of 328. SNC anticipates securing licensed production of such aircraft for sale in the U.S., including sales to the U.S. government.

“We are very proud to be a part of this program,” said Richard Dussault, vice president of marketing for P&WC. “We look forward to collaborating with TRJet, SNC and 328 Support Services to launch this historic project which will have a positive impact on the country’s economy and support it’s growing aviation industry.”

About TRJet

Headquartered in Ankara, Turkey, TRJet is a wholly-owned subsidiary of SNC which is supporting the Turkish Regional Aircraft Project (Project) and the commercial aviation sector. TRJet combines the legacy of two esteemed aviation companies, SNC and 328 Support Services GmbH, to create an aviation and aerospace company that merges modern German aircraft engineering and the latest industry modification standards. Making Turkey’s first regional aircraft a reality, the Project fills a niche market for direct and frequent flights between small Turkish cities which is currently not feasible using larger airplanes. TRJet also supports the growth of Turkey’s existing civil aviation industry and will help to introduce the country to the global aviation market, establishing it as an aircraft Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), all while contributing significantly to Turkey’s economy.

Nope.

Project terminated.

Not that surprising after seeing Bombardier and Mitsubishi struggling with launching their new projects.

Now for the termination of the equally idiotic Turkish TFX fighter jet project....seeing as most of the air force pilots were sacked or jailed after the coup and Turkey has grounded half their F16s since.
