For example, why are these construction workers allowed to loiter in the HIGH SECURITY terminal area? This would not be possible in other airports like CHANGI or CHEP LAP KOK. Some of them are even lounging on the floor. How would this look to the foreign tourists? This is supposed to be our showcase to the world.

FYI, I am not a militant. I work in the area of Quality Control. I am exposed to how the Germans and the Japanese are in terms of EXCELLENCE in WORKMANSHIP. And believe me- they take it very, very seriously.

Learn from the things I am pointing out because if you were to hire a European, Singaporean, Japanese or American quality consultant they will tell you the same things- and charge you $30,000.

It is important to do things RIGHT from the very start (with no EXCUSES)- a concept that Pinoys have to learn if they want to be WORLD-CLASS.
I Agree. You have hitten the nail on the head! They made a good job with T3!!Those plants are at the wrong place, they only give a bad taste.just beeing more demanding!!

Here in Switzerland , we take such things like that very seriously.we can`t even build highrises without the permission of the governor, law, etc.,because finally it has to match also to the landscapes behind.zurich`s has a small but very modern airport.hope that the DMIA would be inspired by international airports to prove more their own airport for future.p.s. i hate the spaghetti wires all over manila.i hope that they`ll find a solution for that ,too!!!

From the Philippine forums: more renovations at Terminal 1.

Personal opinion: At good news for our 750php payment for the terminal at least we see the physical changes where the fee goes. And it's a good thing the satellite of Gates 3-6 had been first to have a facelift since is has a detoriating old-looking area compared to a better and still in good shape satellite of Gates 10-14. I hope the restrooms will follow too.

Takenaka wins $83-M suit vs Piatco

Takenaka wins $83-M suit vs Piatco

Philippine Daily Inquirer
First Posted 21:58:00 09/14/2010

TAKENAKA CORP. and Asahikosan Corp. of Japan, the real builder and supplier of the Naia Terminal 3, have won their foreign judgment enforcement suit against Philippine International Air Terminals Company Inc. (Piatco).

In a decision dated September 6, 2010, Judge Zenaida T. Galapate-Laguilles of Branch 143 of Makati City’s Regional Trial Court held that Takenaka and Asahikosan are entitled to collect the amounts of $81.27 million, P116.8 million and £65,000 (or roughly $83 million) from Piatco pursuant to the two judgments they obtained against Piatco from the High Court of Justice, Queen’s Bench Division, Technology and Construction Court in London, England in 2005.

Takenaka and Asahikosan were represented by lawyers Polo Pantaleon and Enrique Galang of the Castillo Laman Tan Pantaleon & San Jose. Piatco, on the other hand, was represented by the Romulo Mabanta Buenaventura Sayoc & Delos Angeles and the Quasha Ancheta Peña & Nolasco Law Offices.

Piatco’s loss came on the heels of the rejection by the International Chamber of Commerce in Singapore of its $550-million claim against the Philippine government two months ago. German company Fraport, a major partner of Piatco, also lost its suit for $450 million against the Philippine government in the International Court for the Settlement of Investment Disputes in Washington, D.C.

Despite the loss, however, Piatco retains the right to receive “just compensation” for Terminal 3.

Aside from infrastructure projects for rail, there are also PPP projects for the aviation sector. De Jesus said project package for the completion of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport 3 is a priority.

“Once we open NAIA 3, it will be considered as an international airport. Starting November, we will undertake a greater capital region airport master plan to see the relationship of airport operations in Manila, Clark, and Sangley, Cavite and find ways on how to improve it,” he said.

De Jesus said the DoTC’s first 100 days have set a “clearer roadmap” for the improvement of the country’s transportation sector. “Our plans may not be realized within my lifetime but it could be with yours. What’s important is for us to set it in motion,” he added.

NAIA-1 has a few new LCD monitors which serve as FIDS displays outside, but inside, the old system is still being used. NAIA-2 however should have a new FIDS installed.

The MIAA no longer issues permits to enter the terminal after the A(H1N1) scare two years ago.

although I can't believe the time it took/it's taking to open this damn third terminal. in the timeframe it took/is taking to open it Bangkok, Singapore, Beijing and other Chinese cities built terminals that makes this one look very old.

We know who to blame for that, right?

Anyway, more pictures of NAIA Terminal 2 from the Philippine forums.
