I rarely see any realistic completion date ever. I mean, Mumbai was supposed to have 10 supertalls by 2015 with original completion dates and it got 0.

Construction is awarded to Chinese firm, with Q1 kickstart expected and construction will take about 60 months.

Chinese Firm to Build 133-Story Twin Towers

However there is pessimism over viability of the monstrous project

Quote:
The country’s tallest building—the 39-story Vattanac Capital building—may offer a glimpse into the twin towers’ fate. Completed in 2014, the tower only reached an occupancy rate of about 30 percent by the middle of last year, the company’s senior leasing manager told The Guardian newspaper in July.

Good reason to have significant doubts indeed.
Nice design though.

The cost to build the twin towers is as much as 16% of Cambodia's entire GDP in 2016!

Just a crazy scale for a country with per capita income of measly $1,095. Good thing it will be financed by China though..

Contract signed to build Asia's new twin towers

Source: ECNS | Retrieved: Jan 01, 2017 PST

Contract for building twin towers in Cambodia, which will surpass the height of Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, was signed in Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province, on Saturday.

The Wuhan-based Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group Co. Ltd. signed the 2.7 billion-U.S. dollar contract with its Cambodian partner Thai Boon Roong (TBR) Group and Macao-based Sun Kian Ip Holding Co. Ltd.

The 560 meter towers, to be named TBR Twin Tower World Trade Center, will be located in Phnom Penh by the Mekong River and will be 108 meters higher than Petronas Twin Towers.

Under the agreement, Wuchang Shipbuilding will undertake the construction along with the Sino Great Wall Engineering Co. Ltd.

Yang Zhigang, chair of the Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group Co. Ltd., said the company has aimed to undertake infrastructure, shipbuilding and port construction cooperation with countries joining China's Belt and Road initiative.

The first design looks like a kid's school project, and the ones thereafter like when grandpa intervened.

I think taking the drugs away from the people designing these proposals until they are actually done with the design would be a good thing to do.

The massing model looks quite okay, I can see the essence of Khmer architectural legacy but the rendering looks tacky though. The Jakarta Signature tower to me is a fine sample of putting in some regional identity without overwhelming the modern look of a structure. For such an important edifice, I do hope more consideration is given to the integral coherence of the design.
