Thanks for the photos DFW, I haven't been downtown in 7 months. Found the info about the neon "PARK" sign funny, and glad to see it saved. Won't miss the f-ugly gold rings. I hope the Grand will be more attractive to developers now... that end of downtown has needed a shot in the arm for some time. Have they decided to save the old Commerce trading buildings... which haven't been occupied in years. I always thought they're much better than surface parking, but the plan was to raze it.

Love the Mercantile, but I had heard it was loaded with asbestos. What's the latest on that?

I had not heard that the city nixed the plan to put parking under the park... though. The plan does look nice.

Thanks again.

I think all the asbestos was cleaned out when it was gutted by Forrest Properties for the conversion.

Do you mean the Statler Hilton? It's still empty, waiting for conversion. Hopefully the new park will help spur interest.

I hope the new park spurs an interest in knocking it down and building something better. I think im the only person on this forum and the DFW only one that can not stand the Old Dallas Grand. ITS A WRECK! The floor and ceilings are to close to each other and it has had so many open windows that over the past 10 years it is like Katrina in there.

^Main Street Garden put me in the mind of Center City Park in Greensboro, NC, which was completed a few years ago:

Ha. Main Street gardens looks awesome! I don't remember what the park was to be called but they're going to be installing an "over the highway" park. Too bridge the gap between uptown and downtown. I'll get some pics from my phone next time I pass by.

"The Park" over Woodall Rodgers Freeway, now under construction. See post #903.

The "dinky" park is a great new asset to downtown Dallas. The size doesn't really matter, as long as it's active and brings people to the area (and provides a great space for the surrounding residents). There will be volleyball and other activities during the week and movie series/concerts on the weekends. Everything should be finished and opened for spring.

Pictures up: please note the quality and image SUCK. I snapped them all off in literally under a minute, because I was in a big rush. Anyhow, I'll take some decent ones when I have more time, and it isn't raining.

More good news for the Woodall Rodgers Park:

$3 million donation from Chase major piece of $24.6 million raised so far for Dallas Deck Park

One of the most important parks ever developed in Dallas received a major private donation Monday.

JPMorgan Chase officials announced the company is giving $3 million to fund the development of the Woodall Rodgers Deck Park that will one day link downtown to Uptown and, for a few blocks at least, mitigate the physical divisions created by the city's freeway system.

The park's main mall, a crescent-shaped, tree-lined walkway that will run the length of the 5.2 acre park, will be named the Chase Promenade in recognition of the donation.

The new Dallas Area Plan, called Dallas 360, is now under development. The results will be presented this summer and will show ways to link areas of activity in and around downtown (and make everything much more pedestrian-friendly). There are several presentations here at the website: http://www.downtowndallas360.com/

There's an update the news reported on today: http://cityhallblog.dallasnews.com/a...at-key-st.html
