Ski storsenter looks like Sandvika Storsenter, if we look at materials and how it is built into a streetpattern. I agree with Artis that it looks very interesting.

But you forgot the biggest shopping-centre in my home-town Kristiansand, Sørlandssenteret, with 100 shops.

Its really hard to find anything about the malls, especally images, but ill try none the less.

Homepage to Ski Storsenter is to find here, but in Norwegian.
www.ski-storsenter.no/

You can find some more images here, but it shows very little from the shopping senter, most from the cinema and the hotel. But it also includes a few more renders.

thank you, Christian,

that architects webpage was good, i find another pics also.
My proper interest was not exactly shopping but the way how these new things - shopping centres, multiplexes could be fited to human scale - alternative to suburban malls and big boxes which are made according to car oriented city.
I think it's useful to make new thread about such things. To show good examples how those new large things could be puted in old centres. It's about context. And also another thing - how new centres (shopping and whateever) could be made more urban - with mixed use, human scale etc.

I agree/\

Unfortunately, most centres on that list are suburban, car-based. Oslo city, and Byporten are the biggest exceptions, as they are located as central as can be in Oslo. And Trondheim Torg, iirc. Sandvika and Ski storsenter are pretty good in this perspective.

Ohh, and another center you didn't include in the list Christian, Stovner Senter in Oslo, says they have 100 shops, but I counted 119. http://www.stovnersenter.no/.

Other shoppingcentres you should include:
Storo Storsenter,Oslo, 60 shops.
Manglerud Senter, Oslo with 70 shops.
CC Vest, Oslo, 78 shops
CC Gjøvik, Gjøvik, 70 shops
And from 10'th of march: Aker Brygge, with 70 shops(40 new ones)

Added Btw, i added 100 shops to Stovner Senter, with 119 in parenthesis, as i did with Bergen Storsenter.

Btw, i'm adding the link to each mall's homepage in the list now.

Nice. It fits well to city centre. And I agree with Artis. Usually people hate malls, because quite often there`s no human scale.

I don't see a reason to hate malls. It's convenient thus it's good Unless it causes problems like transportation and is of bad design, of course

Namsos Storsenter
Namsos - Nord Trøndelag

A new mall opened in Namsos yesterday, Namsos Storsenter. This mall contains a 52 stores (included 2 000sqm Hennes & Mauritz, KappAhl) in two floors. To exploit the plot as high as possible they also built 22 apartment in the 3d and 4th floor. The mall is the largest in Namsos and Nord Trøndelag county with 19 000 sqm retail space, and 7 000sqm with office and restidential space.

Namsos is a small city, so many was affraid that the mall would "steal" the stores from the downtown streets. 7 stores moved from downtown to the mall, and this created uncertainty among the local citizens. The mall is situated close to the fjord and when construction started two large underwater stone-slides occured, and halted the whole construction project of over a week. The project was first planned to be completed in december 2004, but they finally deceidet to open the center 3 march 2005. The apartments is expected to be completed in august/september this year.

The mall is situated in downtown Namsos.

2 000 gathered in the building yesterday to watch the opening ceremony.

Namsos is a small city with 8 932 inhabitants. This city also contains the tallest and the only High-rise building in the county Nord-Trøndelag and was completed last year (you can see it to the far right).

Madlatorget
Stavanger - Rogaland

This is a rather small shopping mall in Stavanger with 24 stores. However, in a few years this will become one of Stavangers largest shopping mall with 74 stores.

The construction of new Madlatorget is soon to be started. But first they need to demolish a building and parts of the shopping mall which is standing today. When finished in 2008 it will contain 74 stores, and a large parking garage below the mall which will room as much as 700 parking lots. The mall will give jobs to 800 - 1000 in the staff.

The mall will become 2 floor tall, and 320m long.

The main sqare in the middel of the mall.

Madlatorget looks great! So different from the boring Finnish ones. In Norway people actually pay antention on the outlook of the building.

Edit: oops, sorry. I noticed now that you already had added Tveita

The center looks ok in my opinion. i hope to see some more renderings soon, so i can see the facade for real. Btw, the center is quite cheap actually, 260 million NOK (31 948 012 EUR), so it kinda remind me of some simple IKEA shopping mall. But whatever, its good it cheap, as far the building don't look like a beast.
