Berlin should get down to building.

There are at least 5 serious / realistic +100m proposals within the city. Maybe as many as 9 if we are inclusive.

Getting down to deed seems to be so much easier in Frankfurt compared to Berlin, where even an ongoing building project like that of "Upper West" seems to last forever.

135 m is way too tall. Berlin should aim to be a liveable city and not a vertical one. The six-floor-buildings that make up most of the urban area of the city are appropriate and tall enough.

exactly!

This part of the city is already crowded enough and there are no untenanted appartments in the neightbourhood. Where should the people live who work in this highrise?

And the proposed renderings don't look very creative.
Architects have a big responsibility because buildings are an irreversible 'art'.

The new cityquarter Mercedes wants to construct around the former O2-World directly next to the proposed highrise in this thread is unnecessary. At first they created their HQ at Potsdamer-Platz, moved out some years ago to Salzufer (3 kilometers towards west) and now they want again a new flagship-HQ at the O2-World.

Won't be build anyway... Berlin politicians are pretty much anti highrise.

Hmmm, at any rate - Berlins swiss city politicians are against highrises (whereas in Switzerland, even "Kaffs" like Basel and Geneva are building highrises taller than Berlins tallest buildings). I´m pro strickt regulations myself, wishing to see the Stadtteile and the Kieze of Berlin perserved. Still, there is enough space in Berlin that it can simultaneously define itself as a contemporary world city.

Like the other highrise projects (Max & Moritz and Postbahnhof Tower) at Anschutzareal in this area?

Alexanderplatz and speculation by Blackstone and co. is something different I think.

Pretty sure that this one isn't that much of a fantasy at all.
Until now there is not a final draft but they said that they want to start the construction directly after the completion of the East Side Mall which is build right next to it.
The scheduled completion of the ESMall will be next year so maybe we will hear some good news about this tower this year.
