The project itself is absolutely stunning, but the building... It's not my favorite. Could be a little edgier, even if it wasn't as tall.

The ridiculous (and hideous) ski slope is killing it. The building design seems rather familiar, but then again it is very simple.

Maybe we will soon find out how it will look like when two megatalls U/C can be seen in one single picture - And in the future when three Megatalls in a row, one of them above 1km, look like in the city's skyline God that's awesome

I wonder if this tower is only in the renders to attract buyers and cause attention for the project around it and as soon as that happens that tower gets cancelled, whatever.

Honestly gave Burj 2020 a higher chance, but now we will have three megatalls either way.

Reason I have Burj 2020 a higher chance was simply because the massive increase of value Blue Waters Island is adding to the southern end of the Marina and the tower being close to it, but of course location alone doesn't mean much, otherwise we'd have a fully built Dubai Pearl for years.

To those of us following Dubai developments beyond tall towers, the success of Meydan would also entail basically the entire northern half of Mohammed bin Rashid City being built (and another large section is in Emaar's hands, one of the top reliable developers), connecting DubaiLand to the rest of Dubai and meaning the majority of the city's area will be the designer city it was envisioned to be.

Mohammed bin Rashid City is also just another reason to build Meydan One. I think it's in their own interest to make MBR city more attractive by building a new retail, commercial and architectural hot spot including leisure facilities right
next door

Now the next step is to remove these electricity cable lines cutting through the destrict, which might happen way faster than anticipated. I was talking with a friend last time and he mentioned that the same was done before they started with Business Bay, which means they can actually use the same power line underground connection from there, without the need of a major infrastructure work to done here, hence starting with construction sooner than later.

On another note, can we contemplate the fact that in 2020 Dubai will have 3 or 4 megatalls in its skyline!!! Honestly Dubai will smash records of the city with most megatalls/supertalls in the world! Dubai is a true reflection of a futuristic Atlantis

Good news

Sheikh Mohammed lays foundation stone of Meydan One Mall

Quote:
A groundbreaking ceremony was held at the 40.4 million-square-foot Meydan One site on Wednesday evening to mark construction of the project’s retail mall situated between the existing Meydan racecourse site and Al Khail Road.

The new mall will contain about 620 shops, including a pair of department stores and a 131,150 sq ft hypermarket. It will also have a 1,315 ft-long Central Canyon space running through the middle of the mall, which will be flanked by luxury retail units.

It will also have a 258,300 sq ft multi-purpose sports facility with courts for football, basketball, indoor cricket and various racket sports, a 160m x 100m retractable roof light, more than 100 food and beverage outlets, a 21-screen cinema and parking for over 12,000 cars.

The mall will sit at the centre of the 40.4 million sq ft Meydan One project – a plot of land that will include the 711-metre-high Meydan One tower, 1km-long indoor ski slope, a 380-metre-long display of dancing water fountains and a multi-purpose sports facility.

Yes - tall, but square. You might almost call it rectangular...
