I also have serious doubts...

Tallest residential tower? and this is planned in a area not very developed... While the current tallest residential tower (The Pentominium) sit on hold in the most developed residential area.

Could add also Dubai Pearl, not only because of height, but general size.

Hope is more than just a publicity stunt.

It is located in the middle of Dubai if not the UAE.

Those two projects got nothing to do with Dubai one Developer, so it is irrelevant to compare.

Yeah of course because the ruler of Dubai got nothing else to do all day but performing publicity stunts.

I am not assuming this project will go through but one thing is for sure Dubai is one of the major contenders that when it comes to mega-projects it delivers. So let's wait and see.

I'm also sure the ruler of Dubai is 100% behind "The World" project, but I don't see any "crazy development" there.

So I'm sorry if I don't share your optimism...

P.S. you really think this tower have a better position than The Pentominium?

If by position you mean situation then yes of course Trident was badly affected by the 2008 crisis and that what stopped the completion of Pentominium. Meydan's Dubai one project is backed up by the ruler to be done before the EXPO2020, tbh if this announcement was done solely by Meydan I would be pessimistic about it but that's not the case now.

If by position you mean location, then yes as well. Dubai one is located near Downtown, old Dubai, BB, airport and many more communities ...

Anyways Pentominium will restart no doubt, so will Dubai Pearl, they just need bit more time to do so.

P.S: the world got now a huge project U/C which is called the heart of Europe (http://www.thoe.com/), The world project has lots of potential but its benefits is more of a long term than short term.

Isn't Pentominium under liquidation now?

Site overview August 5th: Is it just me, or does it look like something is going on at the central plots of Meydan City? (Right behind Damac Towers of Paramount, a quadruple twin tower complex, U/C in this pic)

Sorry it is just you ... This has been like that for months now and what you are referring to is Sobha Heartland project which has nothing to do with Meydan one or Dubai one, in fact these two are located where there is the electricity poles eyesore and the space in front of them.

Here where roughly everything would be viewed from BK!

Black is road
Red is Dubai one tower
Blue is Canal extension
Green is mall

Thanks for that illustration, Gabriel.

One question: will that canal extension connect to the Business Bay, or only to the creek? I mean, if it will be connected on both sides, then some of the plots at Business Bay will have to be sacrificed to make it possible. Does somebody have an answer on how and where it will connect to existing bodies of water?

Btw, Damac Towers by Paramount is what Nakheel Tower probably would have looked like in its early stages.

That's the big masterplan for all extensions. It will be connected to both creek and BB Canal.

BB plots won't be sacrificed because the Meydan extension was already planned way earlier than 2008 so it was taken into consideration from the start I believe.

What's going to be done around the creek extension between Business Bay and the wildlife reserve? Left of the big intersection in the pic above.

-edit- Nevermind, checked on Google Maps, that's where the Design District is.

If you mean the area in green on map, this would be a project currently Under Construction called Dubai Design District:

This video has been posted in the local thread, but I believe not here. Make sure to watch in 1080p as it's really beautiful.

If they don't change the height of this building it'll end up being the largest convenience store ever.

Cool project.

Just think that skiing arena looks tacky. Usually they are build somewhere far outside of cities where they don't bother anyone.

At least they could have integrated it somewhat or even build it underground (natural cooling from sand = safe energy cost).

I wouldn't call it tacky either. The ski slope is an interesting piece of architecture and looks clean and modern. It is integrated in the skyline too, because the top end of the ski slope is attached to a tower, which looks great IMO.
I wonder what will happen with Ski Dubai in the Mall of Emirates after the completion of the other ski slope. Will it close? I mean, nobody will go to Ski Dubai when there's a way larger one in the same city.

I doubt it will close since they got other attractions in Mall of the Emirates like penguin encounter and some fun rides. Anyhow I would never Ski in Dubai ... I would wait for winter and travel to ski resorts in Lebanon or Europe but then that's just me cz I just can't see the appeal of it, I love skiing partially because I got to experience and see some of the most awesome scenery there is to see ever, where in Dubai it is just dull IMO.
