Re: rijeka
Yes, I knew about mujweb page, but I didn't want to post it because the author deliberately did something with the picture quality.
Actually turnic buildings do not look like that. He went taking photos on an ugly day and shifted the hue. And he used a poor camera. Turnic looks quite impressing in appropriate light. We all saw Genex photos in bright blue sky. Looks fanstastic. Just try taking photos when it's cloudy and right after rain storm. Looks like sh*t, IMHO; as it's abandoned for demolition. And it all depends on whether the iccupants are commmiting a mass laundry session or not.

abandoned? omg, now i really want to check out the pics. but why is is gonna be demolished? isn't that a little costly task for a 80m concrete monster? I wonder if anyone in Bulgaria would ever dare do such a thing, even if safety of the building was questionable

illumination
it's all about the illumination of the object.
Believe me, even HOTO can look rather stupid under certain conditions. |

What the hell is wrong with you people. You obviously know nothing about architecture. Just because most of these buildings were built in the socialist(not comunist) era, doesnt mean that they are ugly. All they need is a little renovation, and as for the architecture of the BLOKOVI in Belgrade, and most of the other "commie" blocks in Blegrade, Sarajevo and the rest of former yugoslavia.. they are alot better then most "western apartments" built in the same era- 60's-70's-80's. The Blokovi of Belgrade are the finest piece of architecture ive seen anywhere in the world, for living apartments built in the 70's.
Dont compare 70's buildings from eastern europe to 90's buildings in western europe. Why dont uz compare 70's buildings of eastern europe to 70's apartment buildings in Italy for example? there ugly to the max, or spains apartments.. even uglier. Stop ue "everything comunist is ugly" theory. Maybe russia had it bad maybe poland had it bad.. But Yugoslavia in 1989 was decades ahead of poland and russia and was by living standars identical to countries such as Italy, Spain Portugal. Belgrades Infrustructure pisses on madrids for example. |

exactly
finally, the words of wisdom.
but, greatmakedon, don't you agree that blokovi are just a "bit" too large? I don't mean the height (I have absolutely no problems with height, I say the taller the better) but the width. Mamutica in Zagreb is really collosal and it really should have been divided into separate towers. on edit: Regarding the quality of the towers built in Croatia during socialism, I know that as there were no practical construction codes, the building's safety limits were pushed far, far up. Each tower was in fact some engineer's special work. It's because Croatia lays on an unstable tectonic layer. Huge earthquakes like the one in Skopje are likely to happen one day. I spoke to one engineer that worked on almost every tower in Zadar, Croatia, and he told me the buildings could survive more than a 7 Richter quake. There was pride on his face, and I don't think he was lying. It was a truly spectacular work to erect so many safe buildings (and even huge 30floor towers) throughout the country in such a short time. So many fresh construction engineers climbed the career ladder this way. Last edited by Endimion17; March 18th, 2005 at 01:45 AM. |

This is the most disgusting thing that I've ever seen. I'd rather live in a box on the corner of a suburban street than even visiting this area.
