JILIN CITY | Public Transport

Jilin City in Northeast China is planning a multi-line monorail system, according to recent news articles from August 2015. It must be real enough of a project for Bombardier to go to the trouble of sending over an Innovia Monorail 300 vehicle for display. Here's the News Brief posted on The Monorail Society website:

Bombardier displays monorail in China (09/08/15)
Jilin, China. Bombardier recently shipped one of their award-winning Innovia Monorail 300 cab units to China for display. The monorail was on display from August 29th to September 5th in Jilin City, the second-largest city and former capital of Jilin province in Northeast China. Jilin is planning an extraordinary 169 kilometers of rail for the city, potentially all monorail. The first line construction is slated to begin in 2016. Bombardier hopes to win the contract and provided the display in that effort. Line 3 will be 20 kilometers long and will cross Songhua River. If built, it will be the second mass transit straddle-beam monorail system in China after Chongqing. The Innovia Monorail 300 was displayed at Jilin City Century Plaza, where citizens unfamiliar with monorail could board the vehicle for a close look. The city is planning monorail because their underground is made up of complex granite and weathered rock, making subway unsuitable and far too expensive. Light rail was rejected as well. Completion of the first Jiling Monorail line is hoped for August of 2018.

That is news for me. Baike Baidu (The so-called Baidupedia) doesn't have anything about any planned rail lines in Jilin city, and if any Chinese thing isn't there, it may be fake. However there are already two light rail lines in Jilin province, in nearby Changchun (This is going to be funnier than the Shanxi/Shaanxi thing ).

what about the articles linked through monorails.org?

Is the Baidupedia an open-source encyclopedia? If that's the case, wouldn't it be easy to fake?

If it's fake, why did Bombardier send a monorail cab to Jilin City? Are you suggesting the photo is fake too? Certainly anything is possible on the Internet.

This IS a Bombardier Innovia Monorail 300 cab. This IS Jilin City. Looks real to me.

There is no announced contract that I'm aware of, but I think this shows the city is serious.

I'm convinced that this plan is real and that CNGL was just trolling.

There are news reports, so I take it as true, and anyway I thought Jilin city should have plans for a rail transit system. However I need to see a map, and as I said earlier the Baidupedia doesn't have nothing at all about this.

There's nothing encyclopedic about this. That's probably why the Baidupedia does not mention it.
