Lift in Gironella

- Located in Gironella, Catalonia, Spain, this lift connects the medieval centre of the village with its new neighbourhoods, climbing up a 20m cliff over the Llobregat river.

- Design by Carles Enrich, built in 2015.

^ It looks okay, but a brick or stone matching the colour of the historical defense wall would be much better here imho.

Personally I love the Brentwood School addition. This example cleary shows how contemporary additions can work perfectly fine, when adapting to the context of historical buildings in proportions, details and materials; instead of brutally imposing modernist contrasts.

It also shows how critical regionalism is interested in developing a specific style based on culture and history instead of building special attention seeking landmarks that destroy the whole idea of well planned urbanism.

Again you're pushing the confusion between adapting to and mimicking the buildings that are already there. (The Brentwood example being the latter, very well done too, indeed.) The elevator in Gironella is perfectly adapted to the context, despite not trying to replicate the stone textures near it.

Some gorgeous little terraced houses in Baltimore. So cute.
Brickwork is a dying art. It should be preserved, yet also be more practised in new builds.
Amazing thread. Love it. Good work
