How long does it typically take for a scheme to go from a formal proposal to authorities to approval in South Korea. In the uk , it's normally 6 months however this can quickly increase.

This plan has now been confirmed. Construction will start in S1 2016 with completion scheduled for S2 2018.

The Hotel itself (the East "Wing"/Tower) will be 32 floor tall, and have 326 rooms. While the West tower will be 39 Floors and residential

What they always seem to miss is having an Infinity Pool in the hotels. Busan is a resort town during the summer and I'm pretty sure the pool can be used as an Ice Rink like how Grand Hyatt Seoul does to its swimming pool during winter months. Why can't they think about how much more tourism it could bring to Busan....uhhh so-called Korean 'experts' are so old fashioned *smh*

The only thing I think I might like is if the hotel tower was slanted on one side, like the residential building is. But then again, I know a lot of people tire of the relentless twinning of towers, so...whatever. Still quite a nice design, and in a fantastic location. I only wonder if this will spur development in this part of Suyeong, help balance out the massive-and-growing Haeundae skyline.

Yes, the skyline has been dominated by Haeundae until now (and still will be).

In addition to this project, there are residential highrises being built next to the hotel : e-Convenient World Gwangan Beach.
Here is the website : http://www.daelim-apt.co.kr/Cicm_mai...BIZ_LND=140151
And current construction status

And of course, on the West side of Gwangalli is The W complex (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...1662491&page=2).

But tall buildings are truly spreading all around. Some in the Busan Finance Center - Busan Citizen's Park corridor, a few projects around Nampo - Busan Station, as well as the Ijin Bay City that was just proposed for Songdo Beach (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...light=ijin+bay).

And about the hotel, here is a video from the Busan news, with nice 3D images of the Kempinski Hotel : http://www.knn.co.kr/73740

Recent scene in front of what will be the future Kempinski Hotel

It seems that demolition of the existing building will begin soon

Mmmm I don't know, maybe it's just because it's not a very high-quality render, but the original design looks much better.

I have to say, I really am disappointed in the redesign. It went from pleasant and memorable to being just another set of rectangular boxes. I'm getting tired of the "maybe cladding will save it" excuse; why'd they throw away a lovely scheme for this?

I don't think this is skyscraper status, looks shorter than 200m
