They cantilevered the south side because they own those buildings to the south. Cantilevering on the north side would involve air rights and possibly bitchy neighbors.

It'd be safe once a bit more of the proposals are actually under construction. From what I see, only two 200m+ towers are under construction (River Point/150 North Riverside), Wolf Point isn't rising aside from a shorter tower yet, and all the supertall proposals currently are no more than proposals. Call it a boom when that changes.

There is a whole pile of shorter towers going up though. Lots of the remaining parking lots getting filled in.

Magnificent design!..I remember my wonderment the first time i went to the Sony center in Berlin!!Jahn is definitely a talented and leading architect,uncompromising on the quality of the materials.
