NEW YORK | 145 East 60th Street | 305m | 1001ft | Demo

Another week, another possible supertall for NYC -this time bordering the Upper East Side. I can't copy-paste the article so here's a synopsis. The developer is the same who partnered with another company to develop a 700' Hudson Yards hotel and condo tower. Their partnership fell apart, but maybe Kuafu can make it big here. The rendering you see is sort of like the 'Hudson Spire' concept - a possibility of what could happen here. Time will tell if this comes to fruition as a supertall, or a tall tower falling short of that mark. According to World Wide Group's marketers, The site can accommodate a 1000' tower.

TRD: Kuafu to buy UES development site for north of $300M : Tower as high as 1000 feet could rise on World Wide Group's Lot

Curbed: Developer May Build Tall Condo Tower on Subway Inn's Grave

An assemblage of six contiguous buildings, including the one that used to house beloved dive bar Subway Inn, on East 60th Street is in contract to sell to Chinese private equity firm Kuafu Properties for more than $300 million, The Real Deal reports. The buildings, which stretch from 143 to 161 East 60th Street, were acquired by the World Wide Group over a nine year period starting in 2005. The site could accommodate a 280,000-square-foot tower that could rise to 1,000 feet, making it the tallest building in Midtown East. (The site is basically on the border between Midtown East and the Upper East Side.) Kuafu is also developing the Hudson Rise hotel in Hudson Yards, which is not going so well.

The tower itself looks interesting. I like the way it shimmers in that first rendering. The base and the way the tower interacts with it seems kind of awkward though. A little too Chinese luxury mall for me. Maybe that's the developer's influence. On a related note, I'm really happy subway inn found a new space.

The area is a piece of crap now but that transforms it... would be great if it touched 1,000 ft!

I like the view from the park, it looks really classy. Who is the architect? It looks similar to Gang.

Hardly a piece of crap. This is right across from Bloomingdale's.

This tower does look gorgeous! Loving the bronze cladding with those layered setbacks

Is the architect Frank Gehry by any chance? I see similarities...

My only gripe is the street wall; it doesn't exactly scream New York to me

I can't say if it's nice or ugly until I see bigger renders, but it's definitely interesting.

And aren't there a few more UES towers in the works?
