Given this is the overall high-rise forum, I would be interested in what people outside of the Milwaukee area think of this project.

I think it's nice. I wish it was taller though.

If you're curious of my opinion, I think this is an excellent addition. From what I can tell Milwaukee seems to be one of the great midsize cities in the US that is creating an attractive downtown appealing to both residential and office construction. Also, almost all the construction seems to be pretty high quality, so I'm happy. I think this adds to that rapid progress. What do locals think of my assessment?

I like it and its refreshing to see an outsiders opinion. I think Milwaukee is going to surprise a lot of people in the coming years. There is so much investment coming into the downtown area and surrounding neighborhoods. This new tower will be a great addition to the new cluster that is being created by the lakefront. In addition to this tower the Couture project should be breaking ground next summer, Northwestern Mutual's office tower is currently rising, 833 East is topped off, another residential tower, 700 E Kilbourn has been proposed, and Johnson Controls is studying a lakefront site for a possible new headquarters. Hopefully this is just the beginning of great things to come!

A few smaller buildings all owned by Northwestern Mutual. The only one that would possibly be worth saving would be the Vermont (top picture). Apparently there are newer renderings that should be released shortly for this project, but construction is definitely getting underway.

Northwestern Mutual's new 550' Tower and Commons is the building growing in the background.

The foreground is the demolition taking place for this tower. New renderings should be released in the near future.

I thought people might enjoy this image from the 40th floor of the nearby US Bank Center showing that there is sheet piling being installed around the perimeter of the site and there also appears to be some excavation going on as well.

Here's a photographic update of progress on this project courtesy of MilwaukeeMax on one of the Milwaukee forums. As you can tell from the photos the sheet piling has been installed all around the site and excavation has begun.

An update from May 28th taken by me. As you can see, the hole is getting deeper. You can also get a perspective of how this tower will stand compared to NML's existing structures.
