It's been a while since an image was posted to this forum of this project. I found this photp of the construction site today on @RealResultsMKE's Twitter page and thought some people might enjoy it:

Is anyone else disturbed by the effect that the massive parking garage will have on the neighborhood? In the short run these type of developments are generally profitable and viewed positively. Yet if many like this are built, the end result is an urban desert. Lifeless zones that people tolerate as they scurry from one place to another. Neighborhoods full of high rise parking structures are generally not ones that people want to spend time in. It's tolerable when there are few. But when numerous it leads to high density and simultaneously heavy reliance on cars. Traffic becomes the defining experience. The city and the experience of living in it becomes one optimized for vehicles rather than an enjoyable sense of space.

This isn't an outright condemnation of automobile culture. Rather, it's an observation about what happens when city cores are comprised of block sized parking garages.

I see what you are saying, but that being said, the ground floor will house decent sized retail component. With this you also have to be cognizant of the fact that Northwestern Mutual is building their HQ tower and commons with a much larger footprint with absolutely 0 parking. I would start to get concerned like you said though if every block was developing into the large parking ramps. Hopefully the streetcar will help relieve Milwaukee it's heavy reliance on cars as well.
