If the google map position is correct, it's the East Gate. Notice the Dongdaemun Stadium and Doota.

Yes, the Northern Gate. It's quite a hike.

The Northern Gate was closed to the public since North Korean commandos attempted to assassinate President Park Chung-hee in 1968. It was opened to the public only recently, so many people still don't know about the place.

Those are place names, so they're already translated.

It is actually possible to translate most of them from Korean to English since they're usually written in Hanja (Chinese Words) but some of their direct meaning from the hanja would be rather funny. Seongnam 城南 I bleieve means South of the City, the City referring to Seoul, since Seoul was known as Hanseong. 漢城. just an example.

However, as cydevil said, they're place names. It's just like Seattle not capable of being translated into Korean or Chinese, except its the name of an Indian Chief.

Not that they need it, but I heard Korea gets lots of pollution from China?

It really must be pretty bad.

There's sandstorms in Seoul coming from the Gobi desert especially in the spring but also (to some lesser degree) in the fall. It's not clear if this could be classified as "pollution" since the level of NOX and SOX in Seoul is as low as in the major North-American cities. Only the level of small particulates is higher - probably just sand is falling as it has been doing for hundreds of years.. Still bad for the health and the visibility thus.

I read from some kind of news article (which I don't exactly recall where), but the sandstorm from China nowadays doesn't only have sand particles but also some of the most harmful heavy metal particles originated from there due to recent economic development of China.

I think the top 2 pics posted by skyscraper03 are supposed to connect like a panorama
It would be one of the best skyline shot of seoul then.
I'll try it when I install Photoshop (just got Vista and reformatted)

EDIT: I tried but they are slightly off so it didnt work

Those apartments in Bundang look very nice. I think all Korean apartments should look around that aesthetic. I think they are modern. Also Im amazed there are so little houses in Korea, most are apartments. However I would like houses to be built in the traditional way, rather than the western way. I think traditional houses look much fitting in the Korean environment, especially when it snows !

haha, I'm the one who's sorry hmm, 4-5 km south of bupyeong.. I had a gf who lived a couple of kms south of bupyeong so I rode through the incheon streets quite much - but I can't recall seeing this spot. I'm stumped

edit: ok, I think I know where it is - will have to take a look next time

ah, yes.. u have good episodes in Incheon..
well, actually Incheon itself is another wide city, whenever i go to the city, i fear whether i could lost my way,.. lol..
or some change might happen after your visit to the city.. well.. i don't know....

anyway,.. the old port maybe 9kms or so from Guwoldong as my reading the scale on my mapbook.. actually Guwoldong and Bupyeong is quite on inner side of the land.. (As I know, Bupyeong is a different city with Incheon in Chosun dynasty)
