yes, because the european central bank wants to be as far away from the rest of the banks as possible...just to show "we do not belong to the other, we´re Europe and not capitalism"...

I disagree with that statement. I think it's more of a look they were going for. Just as the UN Headquarters is on the edge of Manhattan away from the other buildings, why? not because the UN is saying "don't associate us with business" but because land was more bountiful over there. Just as in Frankfurt you're going to get more land outside the cluster, so you can have smaller extra buildings on the same land, you can have greenery, and still have the benefits of being in a large city with your own skyscraper not looking "out of place."

It also leaves room for nearby future expansion if necessary, whereas building downtown would make that a lot harder.

The new EZB headquarter is getting build outside of the main cluster just because the Großmarkthalle is outside, I think.

Apart from having more room and centralizing several buildings into one complex, it is also a security aspect.

In downtown Frankfurt it is pretty hard for the police to keep traffic away from the current premises. It is not nearly as secured and fortified as the UN Headquarters in New York. By moving into the new complex it will be much easier to control who comes onto the premises and who doesn't. The distance between the building and street/pedestrian traffic will be much wider than it is now.

Frankfurt favored the location as it stimulates the rather run-down area surrounding the premises. Already there are several hotels being built, new roads are under construction, a new bridge is in the making and an adjacent park ("harbor park"). Also, to follow are two shopping malls, a new square in front of the subway station and many new living quarters. All in all, it is like a "gold rush" in the eastern end of Frankfurt, also called "Ostend".

Skyscrapers without density is always a bad combination in my opinion. So I would have prefered a central location for this one as well, or to see more density around it instead of greenery.

First i thought it`s bad that the tower is that far away located. But i see the big construction going on this disctrict. The ECB HQ is just the initial spark for investement in this part of town. The East harbour is booming. Also the building is that nice that it can be a landmark tower.

I think the location is great. The whole "Ostend", which was or still is a pretty wasted area, is booming right now.
Man! I've should have invested there 5-10 year ago...

That's a good tower. I really like the render.
Hopefully when i go to Frankfurt I'll take some pictures of the construction site.
