Just the GC (as a baby) and Canberra in 1999.

I hope to add Victoria to the list by years end.

What is the difference between a "state" and a "territory" in Australia? Here in the USA, a territory was essentially a given large geographical area with a certain number of people. Once the population reached a certain threshold, it could apply and be accepted into the Union. From then on, it was treated the same as every other state.

Is this a similar framework in Australia? I would imagine that territories would have less local responsibilities as a opposed to states. Does the federal parliament in Canberra oversee the remaining responsibilities in the territories?

Pretty much the same here. I believe the people of the NT have already rejected statehood once at a referendum.

I've been to:

All states and territories except TAS

All capital cities except Hobart, Darwin

Queensland (obviously) - but I've only been as far north as Rainbow Beach about 200km north of Bris.
NSW - All down the east coast from T'Heads to as far as Syd. Also down through Dubbo and Parkes and that way towards Melb)
VIC - Melb, Geelong, Sheparton and up towards NSW border towards Canb. Also along great ocean road.
ACT

Never been to TAS, SA or WA, I've flown over NT a few times though. Really want to get to Perth some day too.

No benfits - but no losses either. Though generally Territorians would be expected to vote for it (especially in the metropolitan areas) the process was stuffed up. To become a state a constitution had to be written but a non-democratically elected committe wrote it and there was pretty much no involvement by the public...people felt left out and confused by a document that was very difficult to understand. Essentially, people voted 'no' as a form of protest against the way the whole process and draft constitution. As one minister put it on radio before the referendum "well, if people don’t like the constitution they can vote no to statehood." seems they did.

There'll be another opportunity anyway, and hopefully the process might go better.

I've been to the top 4 states/territories on the list.

Never been to NT or Tas. I would love to get to Tasmania though and will do so in the next few years. Other then my home state of NSW, I have travelled most frequently and extensively through QLD.

I believe that the voters did not like the way the question was put and the person who framed it. So it will need to go to referendum again. But it is a self governing state in all but name.

Wonder if it would be renamed if it became a state.

Could ACT ever become a state?

I have been to them all, the Navy was good for travel.

Sadly I didn't have a girl in every port, but I tried my best.

All except WA & Tazmaynya.

been to most places in Vic over the years (dad is a former geography teacher, so holidays became extended geography excursions when I was younger ) - never been to the Vic High Country / Alps (unless you count Donna buang!) nor Hamilton, Mildura and Swan Hill areas.
Southern NSW (Hume, Monaro and Coastal corridors), NSW Alps once, Shagney multiple times, haven't been to much north of Sydney (read: never) & NSW interior (Newell corridor), Dubbo etc etc Canberra multiple times and Goulburn-Mittagong-Bowral twice.
Been all over the habitable parts of SA (read: 5% of the state lol), Victor, Goolwa, Robe, Kingston SE, Mt. Gambier, Port Augusta, Wilpena and of course 'Laide itself a couple of times, haven't been on Kangaroo Island though.
only been to southern regions of NT (Alice - Uluru - King's ) and QLD (Brisvegas and GC) though.

All except WA, Tas and NT.

NSW: Been all over the eastern 2/3rds, mostly by rail (Sydney-Brisbane, Sydney-Werris Ck-Narromine-Parkes-Forbes-Coonabarabran, Sydney-Albury, Sydney-Harden-Blayney-Lithgow-Mudgee-Gulgong-Muswellbrook-Sydney, I've taken the motorbike from Melbourne-Sydney up the Princes, done the Hume several times, have been to the snowy's twice in my life, once by rail to cooma and bus to Perisher when I was 4, the other time on the dog all the way from Sydney to Thredbo. And I have been around most of the parts inside those loop trips by road and rail at various times.

QLD: Been to Brisbane several times, Childers(Buxtonville) for a few weeks, Bundaberg once or twice in that time, and I escaped the five ring circius while living in Sydney by taking the slow train to Longreach. Been through Ipswich/Toowoomba/Warwick a few times too, on the New England Highway coach route.

Vic: Been on trains Melb-Bairnsdale, Melb-Warrnambool, Melb-Albury on both gauges, Echuca via Bendigo, St Arnaud via Ballarat, and who could miss Stony Point? Also have done Melb-Adelaide by Firefly, and have taken the motorcycle to and from Bendigo via a few back routes, went via Castlemaine-Maldon on the way there, and back via the Bourke and Wills track, then down through Lancefield.

SA: Been to Adelaide twice. First trip (capool) I basically stayed around the inner burbs and Glenelg, save for a few trips down the one-way freeway and also up to Two Wells and Gawler. Second trip (firefly) included a stint to Mount Barker by bus for a short railmotor ride to the junction.

I'm hoping to get work to send me to Perth for a few weeks some time this year. I'm also tossing up requesting a transfer and moving there, but will reserve that decision til after I have spent some time there. I've been in Melbourne four years now (well, in four weeks I will have been), and it's quite tiresome seeing this great city being sent down the drain piece by piece thanks to Melbourne 2030 sans transport provision. Tis still a decade or so from becoming as bad as the cesspool that I grew up in (Sydney) at least, so I have some time.

Though if I do move, I'm considering shelling out the $1400 to get there in style, on the Overdue and the IP, or possibly via Sydney to catch up with relatives before making the final move. Putting the motorbike on motorail will be interesting though, assuming I don't simply sell it and buy another one once over there. Though it might be possible to get the removalists to shift it. Either way, a few years there might be OK, dunno if I'll settle down there or move on afterwards, tis far too soon to say.

They've invested too much in marketing the name, so I doubt they'll change it. It'll then just have a slightly misleading name.
