Oh, it's been longer.

This has been dragged out for about a decade, now. We just now (FINALLY) have something solid to build on and can now get started.

I believe the next line to work on would be the Union Pacific line between downtown Dallas and downtown Fort Worth. Of course, The T would have to work with DART once again for that one.

No word yet, but I'll get it when I find it.

There have been a couple small rumors of the city revisiting streetcars as of late. Hopefully, that'll have more concrete talks in 2016.

More Trips, Shorter Lines for the TRE

The Trinity Railway Express will have more trips in between Dallas and Fort Worth:

Full Article

Quote:
Dallas Area Rapid Transit and Fort Worth’s The T are considering adding trips, running later on Fridays and Saturdays and incorporating special-event trains out of Victory Station into a regular schedule.

But one of the biggest changes planned for the Trinity Railway Express is to decrease the amount of time between trains. While trains can run every 20 to 30 minutes during rush hour, that gap can last 90 minutes to two hours in the middle of the day, at night and on weekends.

TEXRail

The suburb of Colleyville is trying (and failing, but still trying) to ultimately scrap the project due to "noise".

Even though those same train tracks were there years before those people moved into/built their houses there...

Colleyville aims to disrupt, destroy TEX Rail

Quote:
As with most other items on its agenda, the council has scheduled 10 minutes for discussion and action on Colleyville’s request.

That’s too much time.

The RTC’s 44 members, who are elected or appointed officials from the 16-county North Central Texas Council of Governments and representatives of the region’s largest transportation providers, should quickly reject what Colleyville is asking.

Many Colleyville residents and their elected leaders don’t want the TEX Rail line.

We get that.

TEX Rail trains will ride on Cotton Belt Line tracks that have run through Colleyville for decades.

TEXRail

Construction to begin next month.

Community Impact Newspaper article

Quote:
In a presentation to Grapevine City Council in early June, Fort Worth Transportation Authority officials said construction on TEX Rail is expected to begin in July and the rail service will be ready for passengers in 2018.

Do you know if TRE might purchase Stadler Flirt DMUs?

I doubt it, but it's not impossible.

The TRE, even though it's shared between Dallas' DART and Fort Worth's FWTA, started in Dallas and I think they have the final say-so in which trains they order for the TRE.

For certain, our trains will be Stadler FLIRT and so are Denton's A-Trains, but I don't know about the TRE.

Would be nice to see the TEX rail and Cotton Belt service go south of DFW and link up with the TRE service...then electrified and increased service (i.e. a S-bahn type service). Probably not going to happen soon but still can hope

Well TEXRail is linking up the TRE by going to Fort Worth's main station.

The rest of the Cotton Belt, though, is still on the drawing board.

From Railway Gazette:

Commuter rail link to Dallas Fort Worth airport finalised
04 Jul 2016

USA: TEX Rail commuter rail services are to serve two stations within the boundary of Dallas-Fort Worth airport under an agreement between the airport and Fort Worth Transportation Authority reached on June 30.

DFW airport is already served from the west by the DART light rail network serving central Dallas and its suburbs. TEX Rail would connect the airport to Fort Worth in the east, running over a 43 km route serving eight intermediate stations to reach the existing Intermodal Transportation Center in central Fort Worth, which is already used by TRE-branded commuter rail trains

Fort Worth residents are going to be shocked to learn that they are now east of DFW Airport and Dallas residents will be stunned that they are now west of DFW Airport.

As the above map shows, the opposite is true.
