2015 Dubai Air Show

OK people, I've opened up a thread just before the show starts tomorrow.

Fire away with any predictions before the show, and feel free to post any information regarding orders of commercial, and military aircraft during the show.

Let's hope the show is a good one.

More than 160 aircraft on display at Dubai Airshow

http://www.thenational.ae/business/a...-dubai-airshow

Quote:
More than 65,000 visitors are expected at the biggest Dubai Airshow yet, which kicks off Sunday on the site of Al Maktoum Airport.

For the next five days the city’s residents we be treated to an overhead spectacle of displays from aircraft that will include the F22 fighter jet, B1 bomber and Eurofighter.

A record US$206 billion in aircraft orders were signed during the 2013 edition of the event which runs every two years.

Visitors will include heads of state, royal families and the leaders of some of the world’s biggest aeronautical companies according to show managing director Michele van Akelijen.

The trade visitor show also has a viewing area with entertainment for members of the public who want to get up to close to some of the world’s most advanced civilian and military aircraft.

Al Fursan, the UAE aerobatic team will be performing with Italian counterparts Frecce Tricolori.

“We have the Skyview area dedicated to the public who would like to come and see the displays from a 5,000 seater grandstand,” she said.

The Dubai Airshow has doubled in size since 2001 and now competes with the industry’s other two big biennial aviation exhibitions that rotate between Farnborough and Paris.

More than 160 aircraft will be on display during the week, including double decker A380s operated by Emirates and Qatar Airways while flydubai will bring its 737-800.

The defence industry accounts for about half of the displays at the show and will include a Chinook helicopter from Boeing and a French Air Force Rafale fighter.

I could see Etihad making some announcements concerning it's partner airlines. Like announcing the new European hub for Jet Airways, or outlining it's plans to distribute it's large number of outstanding orders along the different airlines. Maybe even announcing a new partner airline.

On the overall order front it's all a bit out there. It's now predicted that the airshow won't be the order fest like it was in 2013. But I can't see the 2015 edition go past without any major orders. I wouldn't be surprised if all this downplaying in the media turns out to be just a smokescreen.

Speaking of orders, the most likely to be announced is Ethiopian's 777X order.

Speaking of orders, the most likely to be announced IMO is Ethiopian's 777X order. We might see some top-up orders for the 787 and a350 too.

Boeing will have 2 press conferences today, Airbus 1.

http://www.dubaiairshow.aero/press-conference-schedule

Looking at all days there are 10 scheduled press conferences for Boeing, Airbus will have 6 & Embraer 2.

This doesn't say anything about potential orders for commercial airlines as there's also a large military focus on this.

Looks like Etihad exercised two of their options for the 777 freighter.

Boeing's 1st large order announcement is a not a new order.

Boeing, Jet Airways Confirm Order for 75 737 MAX 8 airplanes

http://boeing.mediaroom.com/2015-11-...AX-8-airplanes

The main part was already booked as an unidentified order last year, it's also comprises 25 conversions from the 737NG to the 737 MAX.

The Emirates Non Order

Story

http://aviationweek.com/dubai-air-sh...r-another-year

Lots of wait and see comments, esp on whether EK goes for the 787 or the A350 families and Tim Clark admitting that Dubai is maxing out soon with no relief in sight.

Quote:
Apart from Airbus’ hesitance to launch the neo, Emirates’ biggest issue in terms of ordering more A380s is the lack of capacity at Dubai’s current airport and the yet unclear schedule of opening Dubai World Central (DWC). The airline is taking another 21 A380s in 2016. In addition to its own stream of deliveries for 2017, Emirates is open to picking up production slots currently earmarked for lessor Amedeo, which has had trouble finding operators for the 20 A380s it has on order. “We will see, we need the space for it.”

And probably no A380 orders at all at the airshow.

But Airbus does say that they are talking with 2 customers about larger orders.

Airbus Chasing 32 A380 Orders, Can't Promise Any at Dubai Show

One potential buyer looking at 20 planes, another at 10 to 12
Sales chief Leahy says deals could come this year or in 2016

Airbus Group SE said it’s in negotiations to sell as many as 32 A380 superjumbos as the European planemaker seeks to break a sales drought that’s been eating into the production backlog and threatening the long-term future of its flagship model.
Two potential customers are actively looking at ordering the double-decker, Airbus sales chief John Leahy said Sunday in a briefing at the Dubai Air Show, with one interested in as many as 20 aircraft and the other, in around 10 to 12. Both are airlines, he said.

Airbus doesn’t expect to announce orders for the world’s biggest passenger plane at the biennial Dubai expo,

Must be Turkish and Saudia. Can't think of any other potential customers.

But no actual orders until 2016. Tim Clark ( see above) mentioned taking some of the 20 A380 frames meant for Amadeo..perhaps.

I don't think Turkish have anywhere to put an A380 as Ataturk is over capacity already.

After 2 days only 1 order was booked, 2x 777F for Etihad and 1 order was announced 75x 737 MAX Jet Airways.

It does look like this going to be a very slow Airshow in terms of orders.

Boeing and Qatar celebrated the delivery of their 25th 787. This would have been a perfect opportunity to announce top-up order, firming up the options. But that didn't happen.

But, there are still 3 days to go.....

DWC REBRANDED.

Now "Dubai South". The low cost terminal at DWC is to get an expansion of 20m pax capacuty by 2018-2020 but no news on the 120m capacity terminal for EK. Low oil prices etc.

http://www.ainonline.com/aviation-ne...says-al-zaffin

Except maybe by 2025.
