“The port needs urgent renovation. The roads, the docks and the storage areas are all old and crumbling. Although the dredging work will be
finished within a year, that is only 900 metres of the whole port,” said Adel Lamei, the chairman of the Port Said Chamber of Shipping
in a recent interview. The new container terminals will almost double the port’s commercial capacity, which is a vital enhancement
given the rising trade volumes currently being experienced across Egypt’s key waterways. According to the Ministry of Transport,
the new terminal, developed at a cost of $497 million, will increase Port Said’s annual capacity to 7 million containers from
4 million. This is just the first step in an ambitious plan to increase the port’s capacity to 11 million containers
a year over the next four years.

President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi launched the East Port Said harbour development project in Port Said Saturday, giving the starting signal for digging to begin on a side channel to be used in the project.
Prime Minister Sherif Ismail and Defence Minister Sedki Sobhi welcomed the president upon his arrival.
The implementation of the large sea port on the eastern side of the city is part of the overall Suez Canal Axis Development Project. The new port will include industrial, logistics, and residential zones as well as one dedicated to fish-farming.
Russia selects East Port Said to build industrial zone in Egypt
Russia has selected East Port Said area to establish its industrial zone in Egypt, said chairman of the Egyptian Industrial Development Authority (IDA) Ismail Gaber.
Gaber added that the industrial zone negotiations between Cairo and Moscow had suspended recently in the wake of the Russian plane crash in Sinai Peninsula.
Yet, the negotiations will resume soon, the Egyptian official asserted to Amwal Al Ghad Sunday, saying the Russian government is very keen to establish the industrial zone in Egypt.
Meanwhile, Egypt's Industrial Development Authority has lately settled that the Russian industrial zone in the country shall be on a space of 2 million metres, tailored for some vital industries such as engineering, machineries, equipments, ship manufacturing, and food.
Scope of Work
Urban Planning, and feasibility studies
Project Description
The project aimed to make use of approximately 15 000 000 sq.m. of land to develop and set out an expansion plan for East Branch Port.
The master plan proposed land use distribution as follows:
Industrial area (containers and maritime transportation) 2 551 382 sq.m.
Long term storage area 2 385 354 sq.m.
Stock pilling industries 2 486 098 sq.m.
Modern electronic industries 1 575 876 sq.m.
Foods and pharmacology industries 1 157 200 sq.m.
Engineering industries 1 418 90 sq.m.
Chemicals and petrochemicals industries 1 616 856 sq.m.
it would seem that the grand master plan includes the creation of another basin (basin B) just to the east of the one mentioned right above.
from the renders it look like itll be at least have the length of its larger sister (basin A).
this would mean around 23 km of quays instead of basin A's quays measuring 13.5 km.
this a huge step up and can you imagine the extensive logistics and supporting facilities attached plus the industrial zone size! madness, great stuff!
this befits a spot where a considerable amount of world trade passes.
crazy we havent taken advantage of it under the short sighted and extremely senile Mubarak!
