BASRA | The Bride Tower | 1067m | 3500ft | 240 fl | Vision

Message to the admins/moderators: Please don't lock this thread. This is not merely a vision. The project has been proposed by the provincial council of Basra.

------------------------------------

World’s highest tower to be built in Basra, Iraq

http://iraqnews.co.uk/2015/11/21/wor...in-basra-iraq/

Quote:
World’s tallest tower to be built in Iraq. Basra’s provincial council has reportedly hired international consultancy firm Mott MacDonald to finalise plans for a 3500ft, 240 floor building which would be host to business communities, residents and public entertainment.

Home to the main province for Iraq’s oil reserves, the province in the south of Iraq is becoming one of the fastest-growing business centres in the world. The new downtown master plan was assigned by the Basra governorate. It’s aim to maximize the city’s capacity by 2025. Avoiding urban sprawl was the top priority in order to protect the environment, thus posing the preference to build vertically, rather than outwards. The scheme for the downtown area will feature a one of a kind landmark to match its importance called ‘the bride’ tower.

Dubbed the “Bride tower” the completed structure will be taller than the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa tower in Dubai, UAE which stands at 2700ft.

Do you have a crystal ball or something?

The project has been proposed by Basra Governorate.

Whether or not it actually succeeds is irrelevant.

Apparently, the tower will be powered by solar energy:

Looks cool no doubt but it's more a vision than a real project i think.

Not the right place/country for the tallest building in the world, but it is not gonna happen anyway.

Am I the only one hoping this one happens in our lifetime

Rise of the great Babylon completes with its hanging garden wonder...in term of money, they don't have any problem, but the same cannot be said on their political stability

I think Iraq better take care of some civil issues first. Iraq really does have a lot of potential.

The reason this tower won't be built is because it's completely unrealistic.

Buildings over 300 meters or so are generally uneconomical. Now, the way to recoup that cost is to increase the rents but to do that you have to have a colossal demand for space and very limited supply. So, let's say that this building is residential only. Well, where are the buyers going to come from ? How many millionaires live in Basra ? If it's office space, a building like this would price itself out of the market.

If the government wants to simply spend billions just to be able to say that it has a giant tower then, were I an Iraqi, I would immediately demand a recall vote.

It just *looks* so unrealistic, with the massive canopy swooping from the tower. It feels like those futuristic utopian skyscrapers you see in movies.

I would love to see it in real life though.

Because it is simply not the right time for Iraq to build this project. They have other serious civil issues they should take care of first before they make these utopian plans.

Nice to see that the renders were done by someone so professional to actually use the 20 year old SWFC design in their comparison...

This Basra tower is being mentioned today in an article about the Kingdom Tower on Yahoo Travel:

Quote:
But the Kingdom Tower may not hold on to its record for long. Iraq’s southern Basra Province is planning to build a 3,779-foot “mega tall” skyscraper which would be taller than the Kingdom Tower when complete.

The Bride Tower, proposed by AMBS Architects, will be composed of 230 stories, will be topped by a 616-foot-tall antenna, and will comprise four conjoined towers.

This "plan propposal" looks very similar to the plan of Baku, or not? And Basra, Iraq??? Maybe in 2030...
