I think it's rather the lawlessness of the place that is the problem.

Also the fact that this thing was a proposal by an architectural firm only, without a developer, a site, a regulation plan, or funding. It's kinda like if I and a friend who's really good at drawing sketched up plans for a Mogadishu Spaceport, and sent it to the media. The pictures may look nice, but nice pictures is all there is to the project.

In short, this wouldn't have been more real had it been proposed for anywhere else. New York, Dubai, Norilsk... it's all renders and no plan, so it hasn't got much of a chance either way.

I honestly hope this succeeds. The lawlessness in Iraq will come to an end within an year as ISIS is on its last legs. Hopefully these projects will make sure Iraq has a bright future to look forward too..

This would only be realistic If the certain order and progress from a certain someone and the certain someone himself was still there in Iraq

I wonder what his name was...

It will take 2 years to eradicate ISIS from Iraq. In Syria it will take 3 years or so.

Pestering Sectarianism and infighting will last probably till 2023 when Iraq has a stable government and Iraq is stable. Only then can they begin to build this building.

Design work, structural implications, etc. will take a few years to iron out.

It wont start construction till 2027 and wont be finished till 2035.

I seem to recall Donald Rumsfeld suggesting something similar

2 years??? Iraq is on the verge of freeing Mosul and Anbar im sure it would last less than half a year for a Iraq free of ISIS. Sectarianism in Iraq is pretty much dead and is being cleared with ISIS at the same time.

Iraq only faces corruption and thats the only real problem with the country. Basrah and Southern Iraq in general is hundreds of miles away... a completely different world from the unrest in the north. Southern Iraq is booming but only in regions free of corruption... Basrah in that case isnt even though its the richest city in the country and without a doubt the region when it comes to natural resources from oil to farms and water and sea ports, Basrah got it all and has the potential more than any other city in the country or the Northern Region of the Arabian Peninsula for that matter. I just hope foreign companies get more involved and invest in Basrah... if that happens only then can the city grow to its potential.

give Iraq another 20 years of peace first. Do not rush this.

better off using the money to make a strong Iraq defense that will make any terrorists think twice
