I don't like one of the admins there who tried to give me a hard time even in the BC forum of SSC where I moderate.

back on topic if the height is the only criteria to determine the definition of the so called signature buildings, then none of the skyscrapers in Canada can be one of them if we comparing them with those actual supertalls in NY, Chicago, Moscow, Middle East and Asia. Just saying.

There's much much more to any skyline than just height.

@ Isaidso

Vancouver is so different from Toronto..

Toronto is so different from Calgary

Calgary is so different from Montreal

Not one are similar IMO.. ?

Edmonton is more similar to American mid size cities ? All the others are uniquely Canadian .. but also uniquely different from each other ?

Just my opinion.

We're both right.

Just to give you an idea on the construction activity here, the 40 100m+ and 7 200m+ UC figures are more than ALL other Australian cities combined. So we're the toronto equivalent over here.
I didn't take it as a dig. SSP seems to be all Americans/Canadians these days. I used to post a lot there but not any more. SSP moderation is atrocious and it became unpleasant. I do like their data base but as you've pointed out, people leaving is impacting its accuracy.

Melbourne has always struck me as the global city that most closely mirrors Toronto. It's interesting that it even extends to the dominance of one city in each nation's high rise construction industry.

Interesting. I cut my time there by 95% after a SSP mod refused to discipline a disrespectful, rude, arrogant, condescending forum member. The mod argued that he is privy to juicy industry information so should get a 'pass'. An utter disgrace afaic.

Height is a consideration but not mandatory imo. I'd view the Bow in Calgary, Absolute in Mississauga, and Place Ville Marie in Montreal as signature buildings. They stand out from the rest and immediately signal what city you're in.

Agree, I thought it's the skyline of Saskatoon for a few seconds.
