This is NOT a real project. It doesn't belong in this section.

Or if you're in London, food-shaped buildings are all the rage.

Screw Dubai. It is a place for plasticky buildings, not beautiful art like this.

Yeah except this is not actual architecture, this is tasteless tacky garbage.

A more refined design of the ornaments on the facade will be needed. Now its to bombastic.

If that happens then it will be the most fantastic tower in N.Y !

Thats my favorite for this moment... http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1350355

a real N.Y beauty!!!

Hell I can take a good joke...and this is it.

Though seriously, what could we possibly have on Dubai if they actually built this thing in all its glory?

Yes it is architecture. That's ridiculous. You just have a bias against heavily ornamented buildings and want to pollute an internet message board with such divisive and dumb statements, like "this is not actual architecture". Such controversial statements are made by those looking to get a rise out of people. Tackiness is also a completely subjective opinion. Many would have probably considered the Opera Garnier in Paris tacky at the time of its construction due to its overly ornate façade, yet the majority consider it a masterwork today. You have shown that you have an agenda against a style of architecture - the ornate façade - that is probably the most loved throughout History. This tower is just another ornamented tower. Why are peple flocking to European Cities to see examples of such ornamented work every day? Also, the argument that it is not proper stone carving is stupid. The average joe on the street doesn't give a damn if the ornmaneted is plaster-cast or stone carving by a macon. Most people are not elistist architectural critics and historians. I guarantee you that they would prefer and get more out of looking at this tower than another Le Corbusier derived bore-fest like Central Park Tower or 432 Park Avenue.

Could not agree more. That building is textbook perfection for me!
From its elegance, proportions and how it fits so exquisitely within its geographical & historical context... It's just

Wow, are you sure you're not the architect behind this?
There are many masterfully ornamented beautiful towers in the city that I adore.
To me, this just looks like shit.

It's like a high school jock trying to write a poem.
It'd be a good joke if it was a proposal for Dubai or some asian country but the thought of anything this distasteful happening in NY is frightening.
I wouldn't want something that belongs to a Judas Priest album cover or a tackier edition of the Lord of the Rings to be towering over the city.
As for what the average joe likes, look at top selling records and movies and understand that we're extremely lucky that design decisions are not based on the taste of the masses.

But you're absolutely entitled to love this sort of architecture.
And I am entitled to criticize it.

You guys are missing the point. This building was designed to get the architect a lot of attention, and it worked. Now he's famous(in his field) and I bet he'll get a lot of projects from all this attention, none of which will have anything to do with this building. Smart move.

True, he's getting lots of attention and everybody knows it's trash. He's like the Kim Kardashian of architecture.

If you look to early 20th century buildings they almost all had neoclassic or gothic style facades. With eagles on the edges looking down to Gotham City.

Yet she makes millions. Isn't that the whole point of EVERYTHING, architecture, promotion, building?

I actually like this building. Wouldn't want to be the window washer though.

I think this building was inspired by the column of hellfire from South Park movie.

No it's not.
And she should be cleaning truck-stop toilets.

I am absolutely fascinated by this. It's more than just a skyscraper, it's a work of art. They should name it "The Totem Pole." And I don't agree that this is not a New York building: The ornaments, the copper, the sand colored stone; all these features give it that Gotham-ish look, despite it being different from all other buildings in the city. If anything, the oversized decorations make it almost a parody of an NY building. I can see how the tower is pretty divisive, but to me it would instantly become one of the NYC greats.

I do question the wind load on this building though ... it is gonna be huge.
