All stadiums have the same infield measures? Since when? Tennis Stadiums, soccer stadiums, (american) football stadiums, baseball stadiums, cricket stadiums all have different sized infields.

The infield measure rule makes more sense to me. While the sport played on the field/pitch differs, it's pretty close. i.e. American football field is close to a football pitch.

Interestingly there were plans for Virginia Tech and Tennessee to play a football game at Bristol, but Tennessee had no interest.

Something that caught me completely off-guard....I was just flipping through channels recently and stumbled upon a live feed of Bayern Munich vs. Mohun Bagan (an Indian team). After the match, it was reported that more than 120,000 people were in attendence for that match in Kolkata's Salt Lake stadium. This has to be the highest attendance figure for any sporting event in recent history.http://www.fcbayern.t-home.de/en/new...b17557f3aabfd|

LIECHTENSTEIN!

The Rheinpark Stadium has a capacity of 7,838 since 2006.
http://www.lfv.li/stadion.html

Highest attendance was the Qualifier against Spain.
http://www.lfv.li/nationalmannschaft...uali-2008.html

5,739 - Liechtenstein
Rheinpark Stadion, 06.06.2007, Liechtenstein - Spain, football

But the record will surely be beaten this year, when Germany comes for the WC2010-Qualifier.

The term that would cover Baseball, Cricket, all codes of Football, and even the likes of Javelin and Shot Putt and yet exclude Ice Hockey, Basketball, Handball,Motor Racing,Horse racing,Ski Jump, Tennis etc would be "Field sports". So basically the list shows the record attendance of each nation for a field sports event.

I know, but Racetracks are bigger than stadiums, and stadiums are bigger than arenas.
There should 3 catogories
Racetracks / hippodromes
Stadiums
Arenas

Agreed. Having said that, the definition that I made would then make a clear distinction between Stadiums and Arenas. For example the Allianz or Amsterdam "Arenas" would then correctly be classed as stadiums and tennis outdoor "stadiums" regarded as arenas.

This list clearly shows that The Netherlands should be hosting a WC or Olympic Games soon.

Here you are, Sercan.

Let's go on with the small countries:

5,019 - San Marino (???)
Stadio di Serravalle, 06.09.2006, San Marino - Germany, football
http://www.spiegel.de/sport/fussball...435592,00.html

total capacity: 5,750
http://www.cons.sm/default.asp?id=1035

But I don't know, if there was a sold-out match before.

1,100 - Andorra (???)
Estadi Communal, 08.09.1999, Andorra - Russia, football
http://www.rsssf.com/tablesa/ando-intres.html

Not sure if this was the match with the highest attendance.

18,000 - Luxemburg (estimated)
Stade Josy Barthel, 11.03.1934, Luxemburg - Germany, football
http://www.fussballdaten.de/wm/1934/...g-deutschland/

35,102 - Malta (!)
Ta' Qali Stadium, 16.12.1984, Malta - West Germany, football
http://www.mfa.com.mt/NationalStadium/stadium.htm

17,000 - Montenegro (estimated)
Podgorica City Stadium, 15.12.1982, Yugoslavia - Wales, football
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Podgorica_City_Stadium
Seems to be sold-out. Does somebody know the exact capacity?

For Monaco a sold-out match in Stade Louis II should be the one with the highest attendance.

For me, the people persistantly holding on to the dream that Wembley once hosted 260,000 - 300,000 people are English people who can't bare the thought that Hampden Park hosted larger crowds persistantly and safely than the largest English showpiece stadium, year after year.
It wasn't an attendance, it was a pitch invasion. Nothing more, nothing less.
"But the counted attendance was 126,047 plus people who forced their way through the turnstiles without paying " I hear you reply....
Well...for your information, at Scotlands 1937 game with England , the official attendance was 149,547, however a turnstyle on the mount florida end was rushed, and an estimated 20- 30,000 made it into the game for free. It was the same story one week before when the Scottish Cup Final drew a crowd of 146,433 for Celtic v. Aberdeen ( still a European record for a club match ).. and another turnstyle was burst open.
It was these two games that forced the introduction of tickets in Scotland.
But the difference between these games and wembley 1926 was, the crowd all stayed in the stands, and not all over the pitch.

Until the Maracana Stadium was built in Brazil, Hampden Park was the world's largest Football stadium, once measured to hold 184,000..(although I'm glad it never,,,it would have been a deathtrap )

damn, jus can't find any official number for german attendance!

I guess, this one from Stuttgart is estimated, too
http://www.dfb.de/index.php?id=50000...ash=feef61a3f3

just as this
http://www.dfb.de/index.php?id=50027...ash=83be33527b
however, wikipedia says that the estimated number is around 120,000, and 100,000 is the official number. The game same year against CSSR officially attracted 110,000.

or the 2nd league game 15.03.1973 between 1860 München and FC Augsburg (Olympiastadion München) with estimated 90.000. couldn't they just count sold tickets in the 70s...?

The highest official number I found is:

26.9.1969 Olympiastadion Berlin. Football. Hertha BSC Berlin - 1. FC Köln. 88,075.
