Could New York's Pennsylvania Station actually get rebuilt the way it was?

Moynihan Phase 1 is coming along.

The LIRR entrance appears to have some kind of display wall in the back.

The wording above the entrance in limestone is a nice touch.

I didn´t know anything was going on here already. What exactly is this Phase 1 that is depicted above?

I hope that awful current Penn Station will go as soon as possible. It´s horrible.

Via the NY Daily News:

"Penn Station is on the move, and commuters in the coming weeks can expect to see the first results of efforts to transform its grimy chaos into cleanly order.

The extension of the station’s West End Concourse will give commuters much-needed space to get into and out of the most congested and busiest transit facility on this side of the globe, according to Michael Evans, president of the Moynihan Station Development Project."

"The work, the first phase of the Moynihan Station project, was supposed to be completed last year. The project’s opening day was pushed back because of redesigns in the original plan to include digital media screens, signs to help commuters navigate the facility and better lighting — matching the design standards the MTA set for its stations, according to Amy Varghese, spokeswoman for Empire State Development Corp., which is overseeing the project."

I just went to Penn Station recently for the first time.

Didn't realize how decrepit it is. And its not even air-conditioned, it was extremely hot.

Will the new renovation include central air conditioning as well?

Penn Station's West End Concourse finally opens to the public

The new west end concourse underneath the Farley post office has opened.

Curbed points to NY1 for the story, including a video of the new concourse.

The new entrance brings a much needed new path way to the tracks.

This is the entrance I showed photo of a few days ago. Much more and better pictures will surely appear in the newspapers shortly.

View of the tracks below from the new concourse.

Charging Station detail: It looks like one side of the Column will have six standard plugs, while the other side will have four standard plugs and two USB power plugs ...

In our efforts to continue providing you with a safe and reliable travel experience, Amtrak® is accelerating work to strengthen and improve operations at New York Penn Station during the summer.
The Infrastructure Renewal program will advance several years of already planned work to improve conditions on tracks, switches, and other infrastructure at Penn Station into less than two months.

While some services will be impacted by the renewal work, Acela® Express service will run as scheduled. To account for the majority of the work, the following service adjustments have been made to Amtrak's schedule, in effect from July 10 through September 1:

• Northeast RegionalSM: Three weekday roundtrips between New York and Washington have been canceled. Service between New York and Boston will operate as scheduled.

• Keystone Service®: Three weekday roundtrips will start and end in Philadelphia, and one weekday roundtrip will start and end in Newark, New Jersey. Service between Philadelphia and Harrisburg will operate as scheduled.

• Empire Service®: To be announced shortly

• Crescent®: Will operate daily between Washington, DC and New Orleans. If traveling to or from destinations north of Washington, DC, you will be able to connect to other services.

Schedules are up to date, and anyone with a trip already booked on affected routes has been contacted. Additional work will last through approximately June 2018, with most of it occurring on weekends to minimize the impact on service.

Can West End Concourse reach all train tracks? Why is the entrance signage LIRR only?

Now I have one wish left for this area of Manhattan and that is, that 15 Penn gets build and that the MSG goes and that the block it occupies is redeveloped into NYCs first megatall tower. Imagine you´re sitting at the steps of the new Moynhan station on 8th and gazing up a 2000 feet behemoth, in the middle of an urban jungle.

Amtrak has signage as well. The reason LIRR is moving into this new facility and not New Jersey Transit is because this is largely being funded by New York State, so they want the benefit to go to New York State residents, i.e. people who ride LIRR.

It's a historical building so I don't think they want to, or will be able to, mess with the current roofline - so they're just enclosing the courtyard in a bubble.

So will all of LIRR Trains and Amtrak now use Moniyahan Station once its completed?

And Penn station be relegated to New Jersey?
