Do you like the mercury tower?

Do you think its kitschy?

The red/orange mercury tower in Moscow is probably one of my favourite towers, love the look.

also like the aurora building in shanghai

i mean too many of those colorful buildings would be too much, but one or too is great imo

if you have other examples of colorful or kinda kitsch skyscrapers pls post them

It's also one of my favourite towers, specially in Moscow. Very unique not just in cladding, but also in shape.
Specially at night or sunshine the orange looks great.

(But I think you don't need to create a thread here, because, there are already threads about IBC, Moscow and I think also the MCT.)

The Mercury City Tower is one of the very few spectacular looking buildings with golden cladding. Most of the golden towers I know look tacky, but the architect did a very good job with MCT!

I never knew it was originally intended to have a spire. Any renderings of what it would have looked like with a spire?

This is the only decent rendering I could find with a spire.

I think it's great! The spire would have completed the proportions of the building elegantly - but it's a testament to the design that it still looks complete (and awesome) without it.

The boldness of the cladding, the sharp angles and the vivid contrasts all blend together well. The architect(s) took what has never worked in high rises before (IMO), melted them down, rethought them and forged them into a monumental and stately tower.

Looks great at night too:

It could have been much better. They screwed it up by adding that screen, removing the spire, and the by ending up with that bizarre vent arrangement.
