A4E Airlines for Europe

This is actually a new airlines alliance, a Lobbying alliance not a Routing alliance, and it mainly notable so _far_for being the only thing that Michael O Leary and Willie Walsh have ever agreed in public on from the start.,

Anyway Micko showed up in Brussels to pitch the wares today....it was covered in this thread on Luchtzak.be and the deconstruction of Mickos standard spin is quite amusing if you read on down a bit.

Airlines for Europe (A4E): Before coming to the press conference, MOL was at the European Parliament to defend the goals of A4E: lower airport taxes (airline fares have decreased by 20% in 5 years, whereas airport taxes increased by 50%), fight against ATC strikes, single European sky (A4E wants action this year on both issues, the European Commission should take the lead but doesn't propose anything), roll-back of national taxes on airline tickets (Italy, Norway, ...).

A4E is inviting all airlines to join and it is expected that the other associations will dissolve in short time (early summer): easyJet leaves ELFAA, Lufthansa leaves AEA... Invitations have been sent last week!
And you know they might all just do that if Micko were the CEO of A4E and too busy to annoy them in the day job. But they gave the job to a guy called Thomas Reynaert instead which will disappoint.

Founding members are the big 5, all of them.

The new association has been founded by Europe’s five largest airline groups – Air France KLM, easyJet, International Airlines Group, Lufthansa Group, Ryanair – to represent the interests of its members when dealing with the EU institutions, international organisations and national governments on European aviation issues. A4E will grow its member base over the next months, uniting European airlines to take forward changes that will increase their competitiveness and result in lower fares and more choice for passengers.
A4E were formally launched only last week and got an EU Commissioner or two along for the photo. > http://corporate.ryanair.com/images/pr/A4E%20Jan16.jpg
