For those of us not versed in the finer points of tall tower construction... could someone please explain how a square, flat, underground podium of concrete contributes to the overall structural stability of this endeavor ??

I wonder why The Skyscraper Center still hasn't added this tower to the list of the future tallest buildings in the world? It's well U/C already and is expected to be the tallest structure on earth, I mean, come on
It can't even be found under any other building classification (In case it's not qualified to be a skyscraper by definition)

I assume this video was composed/edited by a professional company.
So 10 days is quite quick then.

It seems that the core will be octagonal...

Well I would give them some more time since the sheer height and grandeur of this tower is very overwhelming and unbelievable .. they might be still not out of the shock of it being true This tower is taking me back to the feels of when I discovered the craziness Dubai once called Burj Khalifa History is repeating itself

What are the other piles for in the circle?
Just to reinforce the soil around the main foundation?

Nice to see on the drawing on the table the foundations for the cables.
I see many elements, all radial to the core center. Wonder how that will look like in real...

Since the tower isn't square shaped they are piles to support the tower .. the coming 3 weeks we will get the answer of how much of the circle the tower width will be .. its def most of it but it would be nice to get a definitive answer on that especially after the redesign and since we now know the tower will have floors all over it albeit they might not all be habitable.

How long does 150.000 tons of concrete need to dry?

Difficult to estimate.
It also depends on additives added to the concrete or not.

In my former job, we once poured a foundation on a Friday, and installed a 100 m wind turbine on it the next Monday/Tuesday.

In "normal" circumstances, allow it at least 4 weeks to harden, or longer.
No problem here, as the core will certainly not start rising within 1-2 months.

I was going to say, if I recalled with Burj Khalifa, it's not that it needs to reach max strength, just cure enough to bear light(er) loads. Didn't they start building upward on it within a week? I thought Jeddah Tower too didn't wait especially long for the curing, but I may be mistaken. I'm no concrete specialist but it does make sense to not load it until fully cured and hardened. But at the same time that's 28 days of not touching it and time is money.

But with all the cable foundations and other framework preparations, I'm sure there is plenty else they could work on while the raft is curing.
