This came in time ... they just released a new tender of this tower stating the following

Quote:
Name : The Tower Project - Dubai Creek Harbor
Description : Construction of a high-rise tower with a height of more than 928 meters.
Territory : Dubai
Updated : June 13, 2016
Status : New Tender
http://emiratestenders.com/SearchResult.asp
I think height should be changed to 928m+

At least Alabbar didn't say 100 meters higher than BK himself

I think CNN is referring to the word (notch) by these 100 meters

So, it's clearly not official at all

True, and I don't know just like the next person doesn't, but it's eager to make guesses and speculate. It's half the fun!

Emaar is dancing on a delicate fine line here. They want everyone to know that the Creek Harbour Tower will be the world's tallest (ie >1010m) to attract as much investors/buyers/tourists/interest/publicity/etc as they can to the up and coming Creek Harbour district. But they do not want to be too concise as to give away this "target" for Jeddah Tower to revise itself for.

Aurecon joins team for record-breaking Dubai tower

'The Tower’ at Dubai Creek Harbour. will be the focal point of a major new residential and leisure development. Calatrava who is leading the design and engineering work for the project, which has been commissioned by Dubai-based Emaar Properties.

Plans for the US$1bn (£700m) tower were announced in April. The final height has not yet been given, though it will reach a greater height than the 828m-tall Burj Khalifa, which has been the world’s tallest building since 2009.

Aurecon project director Adrian Jones said: “The Tower will test the craftsmanship of Aurecon as we play our part in making a mark on the built fabric of mankind. It is an absolute privilege to be entrusted by Santiago Calatrava and Emaar Properties to work on this project, and we have assembled a stellar team to bring this idea to life.”

“The design is a perfect fit for our requirements and integrates not just design excellence, but also strong environmental and smart-tech considerations,” said Emaar Properties chairman Mohamed Alabbar. “With The Tower, we are delivering a compelling destination that will add long-term economic value to Dubai and the United Arab Emirates.”

Please don't make it 9xx m high. We need to break the 1 km. If its suspended they should go all the way and make 2km.

It's obvious this tower's goal is to be the highest in the world when finished. So take it with a pinch of salt knowing what ever the final height of the Kingdom Tower will be, this one will be higher. So stop asking what the height will be when you will never get the top secret answer.

The Kingdom Towers base/foundation is already made so one should ask how much higher can they possible go?

^ I agree great answer Noir Dresses, I wonder if this project was purposely scheduled for this time so that the KT is locked in at a certain height and the KT may not ever be the tallest building in the world because this tower might be competed before the KT is. If so that was a very smart strategy.

look at the plans for Kingdom Tower though, whie the main structure is angled on top it has a metal spire just sitting on top of all the concrete. Kingdom Tower can as well simply add more height to the structure by just stretching that metal rod out further more. It will be really interesting to see how far both are going to try to claim the title.

No matter what the height was this one surely will be a pleasure to watch rising! I am very excited and interested to see how they will do it.

The greatest competition for having the world's tallest construction in recent years, has definitely kicked off tho no doubt about that.

Interview with Adrian Smith

The day before my final conversation with Smith, an Arab developer announced plans for a structure in Dubai, by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava (you may remember him as the designer of Chicago’s ill-fated Spire), that would be a hair taller than the Burj Khalifa. Bad news for Smith?

“Not at all,” he says. “It’s an observation tower.” Because it’s not 50 percent occupiable, “it won’t be eligible for the title,” he explains. “And it doesn’t feel very real to us.”

Real?

“These things don’t always happen,” Smith says. “The real purpose of these supertall buildings is sometimes pure ego. You know, someone says”—and here he puffs out his chest a little and drones—“ ‘I wanna build the tallest building in the world.’ But the ones who say that first are the ones who usually fail.”

These soaring towers don’t go up in a vacuum, he says. They work best when they can serve as a focal point for the growth of a city or region. They might sit partly empty while the area beneath them sees robust development. “These towers need a surrounding context,” Smith says. “[As the developer,] you need to own that land around the tower and develop that, too, to make it work. If people don’t understand that, they’re usually going to fail.”

Now this is pure "butthurtness" I am sure you will feel something very real once they finish the construction of this tower Mr. Smith. Seriously the average person doesn't really care what class a tower is classified as what only matter is how high a tower is and how does it look like.

EDIT: I am wishing Emaar under the table is planing on making this tower more than 50% occupiable and who knows maybe make it a Mile high. this might actually cause some people to sweat and develop some very real fevers
