Or is there something else I'm not noticing?
Yes, there is more. Note the crescents' approximations, as it used to be (the right picture):

They had to redesign, because it wasn't feasible like that. It was intended only as a selling point to convince the decision makers. It would be more beautiful like that, and more beautiful than it's possible to do IRL. The current arrangement looks more linear from all sides, more like a pyramid's slopes. Previous arrangement was more parabolic. Of course, it could only be possible to sell the design to Maktoums and Alabbar, if it was ultimately elegant and pleasing to the eye, because the initially nice curvature of the wires composition was the main feature that made this tower stand out.

Excuse me if this question has already been answered. But wasn't construction supposed to start in July?

Again. Sorry if this is a dumb question but I'm very curious.

Yeah, I can at least that change of course, and the right image as a model would, if to scale, have cables a few feet thick.

Thanks Gabriel. In a sense we've silently seen the design change with cables, except it's not explicitly being called that. I though the Cityscape model had changed and as you said, just perspective.

Edit. Wow that model is insane even if built like that.

The cables will be around 1" thick, with a weight of 3+ SI tons per kilometer.

What about the view from the inside?

One of the best things about high rise buildings is the view your get... not sure if those cables are a good idea.

Really? That seems rather flimsy and thinner than your average 200m guyed mast cables. You didn't mean to write 1'?

200m guyed mast has 6 cables, this one will have 192 cables.

firm awarded Emaar's The Tower contract

By James Morgan

Wednesday, 14 September 2016 12:07 PM

BMT Fluid Mechanics has won a consultancy contract at Emaar Properties’ The Tower at Dubai Creek Harbour.

The firm, which is a subsidiary of BMT Group, will act as the megaproject’s wind engineering consultant.

The latest contract was awarded by Aurecon, which was itself selected by The Tower at Dubai Creek Harbour’s designer, Santiago Calatrava, as the engineer and architect of record for the project.
