I agree at least not so close! But then it's all about money, the land value will skyrocket once it's completed which will push construction upwards around it

I think that it looks better. It prevents The Tower from being isolated, which creates a space where people do not want to go. From an urban planning perspective, this is a wise choice.

Als the lower space of the tower has no floors, so the view wouldn't be blocked, not using that space would be wasteful

Sentinel-2B was launched yesterday so at least there'll be more frequent satellite updates now.

(Of all Dubai projects big enough to be seen in Land Viewer.)

I thought you said Dubai was the king of building foundations, and I totally agree. So many buildings have been started but now sit there, unmoving. I really hope and expect that this wont follow that fate, emaar seems pretty into the project. Anyway, thanks for the unintended laugh.

Well, here we go: A Google Earth update from December 27th, 2016

Here's a picture of the whole district. Activity is going on almost all around the planned Dubai Creek Harbour district except for the easternmost part. Construction works are focused on the DCH Island and on The Tower at Dubai Creek Harbour

Here's a closeup of the construction site of The Tower at DCH The plaza is now clearly visible as well as the foundation of The Tower! I don't know if my eyes play tricks on me, but it looks a lot like excavation works have started all around the plaza. As we already noticed from several renders, the plaza also extends under the ground with lots of shops, infrastructure, etc.

Now to the 24/7 debate about the dimensions of the project. The foundation of The Tower measures 77m in diameter (blue line) The Tower itself will probably be less wide, but we can still expect something around 40m! Even if it is less, the Tower will definitely not look like a mast. In order to set it into perspective: 432 PA is 28m wide and is considered a real tower, of course. The Tower will most likely be even wider, so expect a massive, skyscraper-like structure rising soon
The plaza's diameter is precisely 500m. Not one single meter less or more, just as we expected. (green line)

And here's a close-up of the currently most developed part of DCH - the Island District. This is where all the photographs of Dubai's skyline were taken

Btw, we should all keep in mind that all the satellite photos are three months old. A lot of progress has been made since

Yeah , but keep in mind than 432 PA is almost 3 time smaller, with the same ratio 432 PA would be with 412m high .. 15 meter wide

Well at least 40m is already better than 30m , will indead look more like a true tower

I was there around 2 weeks ago. I went there at night so i couldn't see much details but the tower site was full of lights and mobile cranes as in the pictures we see from EMAAR. Also the fenced area is too big so you can't see a lot of details. But the main point that it is still in ground works stage

Impressive how this city is implanted into the desert. Impressive but rather weird of course.

Don't worry, any supertall will look like a mediocre building next to this thing.

Has anyone noticed the uncanny resemblance between Downtown Dubai in 2005 and Dubai Creek Harbour? It seems like everything is planned very similarly!
For me it's a clear sign that the Dubai Creek Harbour project is not another pipe dream, but really happening - just like Downtown Dubai! We should all appreciate the exciting times which lie ahead! Dubai has never seen such a big project before and has never built a new tallest tower since the Burj Khalifa, but now the time has finally come
We were disappointed lots of times, e.g. about the cancellation of Jumeriah Gardens City, Nakheel Harbour, the Waterfront City or Dubai Lagoons, but this development is real - it's happening!

Here are two pictures to show what I mean:

Downtown Dubai in 2005:

Dubai Creek Harbour 2017:

As you can see, both districts were at the exact same construction stage with residential towers well u/c, a sales centre and the landmark tower's finished foundation
So maybe, Dubai Creek Harbour in 2018 is going to look close to Downtown in 2007 in terms of construction progress? That would be absolutely awesome What do you guys think about this?

Downtown 2007:
