SEPTA sues Tullytown Borough over delays to Levittown Station rehab

SEPTA filed a lawsuit Thursday against Tullytown in lower Bucks County, alleging that the tiny Borough has tried to impose unlawful local taxes, fees and regulatory costs on the transit authority’s rehabilitation of Levittown Station.

[..]

SEPTA is seeking a preliminary injunction against Tullytown to prevent the Borough from continuing to interfere with the Levittown Station project, plus attorney’s fees.

[..]

In its complaint, SEPTA alleges that it has already paid $166,000 to the Borough and Tullytown consultants for inspections and related costs, even though SEPTA was under no legal obligation to do so. SEPTA also alleges that unnamed Tullytown officials threatened to “shut down” the project, fine SEPTA contractors and double the permit fee, which SEPTA has refused to pay, to $211,000. The complaint estimates that the delays have cost SEPTA $100,000 in additional inspection and engineering fees.

Interestingly enough, the SEPTA to Trenton connects to the New Jersey East Corridor Line, so it seems you can go all the way from Philadelphia to Jersey City and New York on commuter railways.

New London,CT all the way to Newark,Delaware...on the suburban train network. There are gaps between New London and West Warwick preventing you from reaching Boston and between Newark and Perryville,MD preventing you taking it all the way to DC.

How often do the trains run? Is it strictly a commuter service with inbound AM and outbound PM or does it run all day each way?

Every 20minutes during rush hour and every 30minutes off peak on the Main line & Trenton line with hourly offpeak on the rest of the network...

All 120 of SEPTA's Silverliner V have been taken out of service because of fatigue in the trucks. SEPTA will be borrowing from New Jersey Transit, Amtrak, and Maryland's MARC to make up for service.

From the Railroad.net forums:

http://railroad.net/forums/viewtopic...t=150#p1392104

Lease agreements almost signed and ready for:

Amtrak
2x ACS64
5x Amfleets

NJT
1x ALP-44
8x Comet cars

MARC
5x passenger cars

New schedule starts July 11th (Monday):
Trenton Line - removing 12 SL-IV and putting 1x NJT and 1x MARC consist (+300 seats)
Trenton/Cornwells/Levittown platforms are being extended with pavement
Warminster line - additional local service between Center City/Glenside (+1440 seats)
Paoli/Thorndale - 3x quick turns between Bryn Mawr using Amfleet equipment
Lansdale/Doylestown - Additional early AM train(s)

Looking at express bus routes from high traffic stations to Center City
Not done leasing equipment - additional equipment possible from Amtrak and other agencies from across country
DNC likely not to affect railroad scheduling/passenger counts

240 trucks total = 37 have no cracks
480 beams total = 264 have cracks
Repair is not likely possible given magnitude of problem, not entirely ruled out (SEPTA and Rotem both came to this conclusion)
If repair is out of questions, Rotem has already sourced steel for new parts.
Trucks are under warranty

Service disruption will likely last through August, at minimum.
