http://www.spiegel.de/reise/aktuell/...-a-881873.html

The articel is about that frequent travellers (especially First and Business Travellers) are not amused to fly with germanwings. One of the reason is for example they lose privileges like using Lufthansa Lounges. As you maybe all know germanwings is going to take over all non-hubfeeder-flights in Germany and Europe.

The main reason for choosing germanwings was to save money because they have less labour cost per trip than Lufthansa. But germanwings is a LCC and not a full service carrier!!!
Just because I´m not living next to a Lufthansa Hub I now have to fly low cost on my domestic/european flights?!Sure?! What a stupid idea!
Since last year when it began to rumor about direct-4-you, I thought about a better solution than outsourcing.
Why didn't Lufthansa go the same way like they did with Austrian? All non-hubfeeder flights operating with Lufthansa airplanes but with germanwings crew onboard? Lufthansa flight operated by germanwings?
Would have been a smarter solutions and without loosing more frequent travellers, isn't it?

@LMEX:
I totally agree to your statement, I believed Lufthansa learnt some lessons from the mistakes others did. LH shouldn't play with their brand and shouldn't do experiments like this.
Let all Lufthansa flights, not touching Frankfurt and Munich fly with germanwings planes in Lufthansa colors and Lufthansa service.

Lufthansa is planning a huge new order.
Quote:
Deutsche Lufthansa AG : Lufthansa Group invests in modern fleet

19.02.13
Investment in the future: Executive Board recommends to Supervisory Board that Lufthansa purchase 108 aircraft for the entire Group / Focus on customer comfort and operational efficiency / The Group's medium and long-term requirements for short and medium-range aircrafts will be met with Airbus and Boeing aircraft
full article:

8 long haul and 100 short to medium haul aircraft. They will be used by all the airlines in the group, not just Lufthansa.

The Lufthansa Group also posted some very healthy results for 2012, but still more restructuring measures are on the way.
Quote:
Lufthansa generates EUR 524m operating result and EUR 990m net profit including non-recurring effects in 2012. Proposal to suspend dividend payment. Further restructuring measures decided. Fleet orders of EUR 9bn.

19.02.13
Publication of an ad hoc press release in accordance with § 15 German Securities Trading Act (WpHG)

According to its preliminary consolidated financial statements, Lufthansa Group generated revenue of EUR 30.1bn in 2012 (previous year: EUR 28.7bn). Net profit for the period rose to EUR 990m (previous year: EUR -13m), largely due to non-recurring effects from the sale of equity investments. The operating profit came to EUR 524m (previous year: EUR 820m). This includes restructuring costs of EUR 160m for the Group-wide SCORE program. The partial transfer of Austrian Airlines’ flight operations to Tyrolean Airways had a one-time positive effect of EUR 115m on the operating result.

The Executive Board is proposing to the Supervisory Board to suspend the dividend payment. Net profit is to be fully retained.

The Executive Board plans to close sites and to merge administrative functions.

The Executive Board is proposing to the Supervisory Board to order eight long-haul aircraft and 100 short- and medium-haul aircraft, with a total volume of around EUR 9bn. Deliveries are scheduled for the period 2015 to 2025.

The 8 long haul aircrafts would be 6 777W for SWISS and 2 more A380s for Lufthansa.

New Investments for Long-Haul-Fleet

There my be even more orders coming this year:
Source: http://www.aero.de/news-16922/Luftha...bestellen.html

LH is planning to replace their A343 and A346 fleets. They are interested in either the A350XWB or the 787-10. LH is in intensive discussion with both Boeing and Airbus.

To my point of view the 340s should be replaced ASAP because of their high fuel burn. I'm quite sure LH will not take the 787-8, maybe the 787-9 could be interesting as well, but probably it will be still to small for LH.
Maybe they will do some investments ordering more A333 for the upcoming years. I hope they will come to a decision to order either 787-10 or A350 by the end of 2013.

I'm sure they'd prefer the A350 due to fleet commonality and size, if ever they prefer a Boeing aircraft the only reason will be the fact that they're quite in a hurry to replace the ageing planes.

Hmmm... if that's the case, what will happen to their B747-400s in operation as well? Plus, will those aircraft ever be installed with PTVs that will allow AVOD on board them? Looking through the cabin pictures, it seems like those have not yet been installed on Y class... Perhaps more B747-8s will be ordered soon that will have PTV and AVOD on board. But I also wonder to whom those A343s and A346s will be sold of to because those are wonderful aircraft to fly with.

All 744s currently remaining in the fleet have been updated with PTV+AVOD in Y and the refurbished F (very similar to the new F but in fact 'only' the old F seat, refurbished and with extra bed). So LH does not have any more long-haul planes withoud PTV.

That's great to hear indeed. I've seen seat maps that still say TV on main cabin or overhead, that's why I asked. It's great to see that improvement, especially for long flights to and from Asia that take hours on end (especially the overnight ones).

The Lufthansa Group released details of its latest order:

06x B777-300ER (for SWISS)
02x A380 (Lufthansa´s third order for the A380)
35x A320neo
35x A321neo
30x A320ceo with Sharklets

neo = new engine option
ceo = current engine option

This latest order makes the Lufthansa Group Airbus’ largest airline customer, with a total of 532 aircraft ordered.
The Lufthansa Group is also Airbus’ biggest operator worldwide with 385 Airbus aircraft currently in service. These include: 271 A320 Family, 41 A330s, 63 A340s, and 10 A380s.

Quote:
Lufthansa orders 100 A320s, plus A380s and 777-300ERs

Lufthansa Group is to order 100 Airbus A320-family jets including 70 re-engined variants, as well as two Airbus A380s plus six Boeing 777-300ERs for its Swiss International Air Lines operation.

The group detailed its plans in a speech to be given by chief executive Christoph Franz, as the company unveiled its 2012 financial results.

Lufthansa will receive the A380s and 30 baseline A320s, while Swiss will take six 777s. The executive board has also "granted permission to conclude the ongoing negotiations" for 70 A320neo and A321neo aircraft.

In 2012 Lufthansa's group fleet decreased by nine aircraft, to 627, from the previous year but the company has deployed larger types to keep capacity stable.

The group is intending to introduce 34 new aircraft to the fleet this year, and had previously said it was preparing to order another 108.

"Ongoing modernisation of the fleet as well as strict capacity management were of great help in maintaining competitiveness last year," says Lufthansa Group.

This year the company intends to take delivery of five Boeing 747-8s, two 777 freighters and an Airbus A330, plus 22 A320-family aircraft and four Embraer regional jets.

These 34 aircraft will "replace older models", says Franz.

Over the course of last year the group accepted four 747-8s and two Airbus A380s, as well as six A330s, 20 A320-family jets and nine regional aircraft. But no new aircraft were ordered, although the supervisory board approved the lease of seven A320s for Austrian Airlines.

Franz says 236 new aircraft are "currently on our order list".

Lufthansa Group's annual report - which does not cover new latest fleet acquisition - details 133 aircraft on order up to 2018, of which 69 are A320-family types. The long-haul component comprises seven A380s and 15 747-8s, as well as five 777Fs and three A330s, while Lufthansa Group will also receive 30 Bombardier CSeries and four Embraer 190s.
