It's pretty obvious that Frankfurt is gonna win this, but I voted for London.

I prefer London's mixture of grand old buildings (Big Ben, St Paul's, etc), and the modern cutting-edge stuff like SwissRe, Canary Wharf, the London Eye, Millenium Dome, etc. And before people say "But the London Eye isn't a building" ... well yes I know that, but it still has a major effect on the skyline doesn't it?

Big Ben and St Paul's aren't the only old landmarks on the skyline - there are dozens of churches, turrets, spires, etc. dotted all over the place, poking above the rooftops, along with Tower Bridge and the Tower of London (which, although fairly low-rise, are highly visible from many places along the river).

I'm convinced that London has the best "silhouette" of all the European skylines. It might have less skyscrapers than Frankfurt (for now), and less density than La Defence, but in my opinion it has a more interesting and varied skyline because of the way it blends the old with the new, alongside the twisting and turning river Thames.

There's far more to skylines than just tall shiny office blocks.

@wjfox2002
London does have an interesting mix of old monuments and new highrises, but so does Paris in its skyline with Eiffel Tower, Basilique du Sacre Coeur and many more.
If you look at your arguments from the point of view of a foreigner (or not Londoner) you will see that you can use exactly the same arguments to glorify any other European city, just changing names of famous buildings

As for me, I was for instance very surprised by numerous spires of old churches in Copenhagen when I visited it.
Sadly to say I think people in these pools always vote for the city they have some emotional connection with, but if we take it just as fun, then it's ok

If we are voting for skyline - Frankfurt but separating buildings Paris(La Defense) would win easily.

that's not fair... I voted Frankfurt because of the simplistic reason of having the tallest beasts in Europe... if I had to choose how turrets, spires, churches, cathedrals and roofs draw a beautiful, creative and inspiring city silhouette I'd choose Barcelona, Paris, London, Vienna, Munich or Prague over Frankfurt anytime...

we need a basic definition of what's a skyline here to vote, because the building I live is barely 12 metres tall but if I lay on the street and look upwards it draws a silhouette in the sky as well...

yeah, I think these polls are more about "tell me where do you live" rather than "tell me what really is the best place to live, or the best skyline, or the best whatever.." ... anyway, they are entartaining...

Why this poll just one week after this one:

http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=187948

Is there some "official" and "unofficial" polls?

Right now, I say Paris has the best Europian skyline. Very beautiful indeed. It's like london but the scrapers are more compact and, well, to tell the truth stylish (compared to Canary Wharf, not the City).
I like the way Paris mixes brilliant white with glass.

But rest assured Paris. Ask me the same question again in a few years and London will, without a doubt be in the lead. We're just in the construction phase!

But well done Paris. You deserve it.

Metropolist, why give pics of Istanbul when it's not on the poll
