HONG KONG | Arcology Skyscraper | 440m | 1444ft | +80 fl | Pro

High-Rise Complex Named Arcology Skyscraper Designed for Hong Kong Harbor

London studio Weston Williamson has unveiled a trio of Hong Kong skyscrapers that "kiss" one another, designed to sit atop of a new high-speed railway line. Proposed for Victoria Harbour, the high-rise complex is envisioned as a cluster of towers with heights of up to 440 meters, all arranged around a landscaped plaza.

The three towers are to feature tapered profiles, which will allow them to touch at the 21st and 25th floors. "The towers momentarily kiss, creating the main public spaces within the building," explained the architecture firm, whose previous designs include a shape-shifting stadium. "Beyond this point, each tower recedes to leave three iconic diminishing towers sitting harmoniously in the Hong Kong skyline."

The project is named Arcology Skyscraper – using a term that cleverly combines the words architecture and ecology. It is one of a series of designs by the firm intended to emphasize the importance of transport-focused architecture. The site will be conveniently located directly above the new Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link – a new 88-mile-long rail link connecting Hong Kong to mainland China.

Encompassing housing, offices, and retail, the positions of the towers will help to divide the complex into these three zones, creating a total floor space of 250,000 square meters. Commercial areas will occupy the lower stories, while residential areas will be housed on the upper levels.

"At ground level, the three towers form a large central square orientated to Victoria Harbour, and an extensive park enhances the wider urban realm, creating much needed green space along the central waterfront. As the building rises, each floor plate expands incrementally to provide deeper space allowing for greater flexibility in use."

Well, this would be awesome...!

Unfortunately, it appears to only be a vision. As someone on Dezeen pointed out, there's no site for a building of this size at that location, and the high speed rail terminus this would supposedly be built on is going to be on the Kowloon (opposite) side of the Harbor.

Unfortunately, it just looks like a hypothetical proposal of what is possible.

The project is cool but to be honest I think it's more a 'Kowloon side' than 'Hong Kong Island Side'.
I would love to be on the IFC terrace and look at Kowloon skyline with this!

Will never get built and if it does, will be redesigned to look like three boxes to maximize floor space. No creativity in this city. Look at the box we are getting for a "world-class" modern art museum...

Architects can propose whatever they want, only proposals by developers should be in this forum.

It does raise the question of whether anything will eventually be built on the HSR terminus site in the future? If not this then what?

No matter if it's getting built or not: The proposal shows us that Hong Kong is starting to finally join the race

Actually I'll have to disagree. The design is great, but not in that location. The tapering angles and location at the edge of the harbor make it discordant with the surrounding towers.
I don't think it matters much though- as others have a said, this appears to be a vision right now.
Never trust a proposal where the second word in the name is "skyscraper".

Yeah that name is even less likely to be build than the design itself.

I would really like for these towers to be built, it would be great for Hong Kong however I think that the location on the harbor isn't great because the smaller high-rises in the background are un-proportional to "Arcology" and it makes the skyline looks a little dysfunctional.
+Also I disagree with people who claim that Hong Kong only builds boxes, most of there skyscrapers are far better than cities such as Chicago and New York.

People who think Hong Kong only builds boxes, tell me how this is a box:
