DUBAI | Base Jump Tower | 325m | 1066ft | Pro

Mount Everest Inspired BASE Jump Tower Proposed for Dubai’s Waterfront

A new 325-meter BASE jump tower has been proposed for Dubai’s waterfront, providing a platform for extreme sports and elevated views of the surrounding city skyline.

Commissioned as the lead design architect, 10 Design has conceived an expressive building form for the tower, devising a sculptural external hexagrid skin. This structural skin flares out at both the base and the top of the tower to provide not only structural stability, but also to house a series of extreme sports activities.

Conceptually, the tower’s functions emulate the ascent to Mount Everest, with multiple “base camps” offering a variety of extreme climbing, abseiling, and jumping activities. The base and lower levels of the tower contain training, simulator, and visitor experiences, including junior climbing walls, wire assisted high diving, and free-fall facilities.

The lower levels of the tower are intended to cater to tourists and families, and their facilities interact directly with a planned activity plaza. In the mid-levels of the tower, semi-external climbing and abseiling environments are located between the hexagrid skin and the central core, creating a 140-meter high elevated climbing experience. Opportunities for vertical cliff camping at this level will also provide a unique way to experience the city’s skyline.

At the uppermost level, the tower volume flares out to create a series of ice climbs for the most experienced climbers. The three peaks of the tower are designed as platforms for wire assisted free fall and BASE jump points.

It doesn't look old to me, judging by the renders and what they include as background

..... plus, I don't remember any such proposal.

I saw it on the architect's site like a long time ago but I didn't give it much thought then. Who knows in Dubai everything is possible

The tower's design was modeled on the ascent of Mount Everest and includes "base camps" at different levels, says Chris Jones, partner at the firm. The tower would feature multiple jumping platforms, with the peak reserved for professionals only.

Yes, there should be no guard railings. People should be able to jump from the tower (rope free) if they prefer to do so. The world's first official suicide tower- a great first for Dubai.

Dubai already has a suicide tower project:

Information was vague back in April when the Dubai Steps was one of several big announcements by the Dubai Municipality - alongside the five-hectare Convention Centre, and The Hardware and Bicycles Warehouse in Warsan - but now we know the 25-storey structure will reach 100 metres into the sky from near Union Square.

In a story shared by Dubai Media Office from Arabic website emaratalyoum.com, the Assistant Director General for Engineering and Planning at Dubai Municipality revealed it would take no more than a year to construct the 500-step tower.

Launching out from a town square, complete with obelisk-like monument, the Dubai Steps will have five dedicated rest and event areas (every 100 steps) for those tackling the long walk to the top.

It's overall purpose is three-fold, for sport, recreation or relaxation. That means we can expect Rocky-style athletes pounding their way to the summit, or families stopping at 100 steps for a picnic among greenery and water features.

In April, The National reported steps were to symbolize 'the challenges faced by Dubai and the emirate's progress'.
