DAEGU | Dongdaegu Station Shinsegae Development | 8 fl | Com

So, I don't know if there's already a thread for this, but a quick search didn't turn one up. I came upon this project on a general Dongdaegu Station search, and although there aren't any pictures in the link (which is to the project architect's page) showing construction, a quick Google Maps satellite/Daum Maps street-view seems to indicate that it is actually being built.

Mixed-Use Transit Hub: Daegu, Korea- Reurbanist

Quote:
In 2011, I worked with a team at DIALOG that won a competition for a site in Daegu, South Korea. The project is located adjacent to the ‘Dongdaegu KTX Station’ which is an existing high speed rail network.

First and foremost, the site had to function as an integrated multi-modal transit station that connects arriving train passengers with an internal 36-bay bus terminal and a below-grade subway connection. Systems of passageways, multi-floor escalators and pedestrian bridges were needed to connect the constrained and awkwardly shaped site.

Not only did the design have to be efficient, it also needed to function successfully from a real estate perspective. A million square feet of entertainment and retail, spread vertically over 8 floors, required careful planning in terms of circulation, vertical access and a strong anchoring strategy. Multiple office and hotel buildings are to be located in a rear parcel that is connected to the main site by a sliver of land just wide enough to provide road access.

The undulating glass roof was designed to mimic the landscape of the surrounding mountains. A large open area under this glass is filled with vegetation and water features to create a year-round leisure and entertainment destination meant to draw visitors up to the highest levels of the building.

Edit: Can't get the images to work, and not sure how to share Google Maps/Daum Maps views, but anyone who'd like to work that part out is welcome to.

Yeah, no thread that I can think of. It seems that overall, at least for Korean projects, department stores don't get full threads usually.

I didn't see any thread for the new Hyundai Dpt Store in Pangyo last year for exemple, nor updates for the recent expansions to Shinsegae Gangnam (February 25th) or Shinsegae Centum City (March 3rd). And I know there are other, fairly smaller department stores that weren't reported here.

But if you want to start and do it, feel free, I'll try to help whenever I can.

Oh, and FYI, the Daegu Shinsegae building is already about halfway built, I'll try and upload a picture of the current construction status.

I just stumbled across this one due to the slight TOD nature of it, what with its proximity to Dongdaegu Station, and bothered to post it due to what I thought was the approved design, which was fairly pretty and interesting.

If I'm understanding correctly--that that bland box is what's actually being built there--then, had I known that, I wouldn't likely have bothered.

South Korea, your architecture almost never ceases to disappoint.

any first design released shows breath-taking, awesome, top-notch impression to people,
but some revised design will be released again while no one knows,
and at the stage of real construction, you will see quite different design as of more realistic and constructors' profit-oriented but never impressive at any side you'd looked at first design,
LoL it's the Korean routine in building industry...... i.e. Seoul city hall, hahahah............. ㅠㅠ

anyway, but in this case, the boxy design looks not that bad for me, for its variations of cubes,
I just care about the cladding materials.
