Ohhh, the grand Istanbul , once called in Europe , Mediterrenean and beyond ,the queen of the cities. And in the outside and inside of Roman , Byzantine & Ottoman Empire was called simply "The City".

Istanbul rated one of the top cities
Istanbul has been voted the seventh best city in the world by readers of the American magazine Travel and Leisure.

NEW YORK - Readers were asked to rank cities on the basis of their attraction as a holiday destination.

The survey, the results of which were released late Monday, was based on a series of questions put to readers rating the cities of the world for their appeal as a visitor destination.

Top of the list was the Australian city Sydney, followed by the Thai capital Bangkok, with Italy’s Rome and Florence in third and fourth places, Chiang Mai in northern Thailand, New York and then Istanbul.

Cape Town in South Africa, Oaxaca in Mexico and San Francisco rounded out the top ten.

I've been living in istanbul since 1985...every single day of these 20 years i was on streets and every new corner i have discovered has made me amaze ...believe it or not, i could have discovered only a small part of this gigantic city...and now every single picture of these unique places that i have seen firstly here makes me amaze..and a little redden and just in a week ,the tourists cannot achieve the thing that i couldn't have done during my life.

Pera Palas, Istanbul

Designed by the French architect Alexander Vallaury, also the architect of Union Française And the Ottoman Bank was begun in May 1881; the hotel was opened in October 1891. It is said that Sultan Abdülhamit attended the opening ceremony. The "Compagnie Internationale dés Wagons et des Grands Express Européens" had built the hotel for the use of passengers coming from Paris to Istanbul. This is why the symbols of the Pera palas and the orient express are the same.

From the time of its opening until today, Pera palas had been frequented by well-known and highly-placed figures in the political world; such as Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, Ismet Inönü, Celal Bayar, Adnan Menderes, Fahri Korutürk, Refik Koraltan, King Zogo of Albania, Shah Rıza Pehlevi of Iran, King Edward V111 of England , King Ferdinand of Bulgaria, King Carol of Romania, president Tito of Yugoslavia and Jacqueline Kennedy. The long list of political guests includes Giscard d’Estaing, Von Papen, Mata Hari Cicero .The list also includes innumerable names from the world of culture and art such as Agatha Christie, Yehudi Menuhin, Marie Bell .
