HOUSTON | Museo Plaza | 183m+ | 600ft+ | 54 fl | Pro

Massive mixed-use project planned for Museum District

Quote:
A mixed-use project with a high-rise component is planned in the Museum District, according to public records.

Excelsior Land Co. Inc., a Houston-based company that is linked to eye surgeon Paul Michael Mann, submitted a plat record to the city of Houston for the yet-to-be-announced project.

The project would be located in part on two city blocks bounded by Southmore Avenue, Main Street, Wichita Avenue and Fannin Street, according to the plat record. Currently, the 2.4-acre site is occupied by several buildings, including the Mann Eye Institute and Laser Center’s main office, 5115 Main St. The property is several blocks north of Hermann Park.

Excelsior Land’s plat record calls for Palm Avenue, sandwiched between the two city blocks, to be closed off and for the two city blocks to be considered one site for redevelopment. The plat record is expected to go before the Houston planning commission on April 14.

Vernon G. Henry and Associates Inc. filed the plat record on behalf of Excelsior Land. The Houston-based planning consultant firm told the Houston Business Journal that a mixed-use project with a high-rise development — designed by Philip Johnson / Alan Ritchie Architects — is planned for the site. Vernon G. Henry and Associates did not provide more details about the project.
