Always to double the height doesn't work i think. 1000m is 1km and 1600m is 1 mile, two good steps/great marks i think.

As long as Proposed buildings are NOT in the same section as Under Construction, I say start the new category. I like looking at actual construction all in one category. Then I vote for 600/2000 as the minimum height.

There are definitely too less Megatalls U/C to create a own section. Mix the Proposed AND U/C Megatall projects or make a 500m+ Supertall section sorted by Status.

A new thread makes sense at 500m temporarily and when there is enough u/c at 600m+ make the adjustment.

Maybe as I said before:
- 200m > Skyscraper
- 300m > Supertall
- 600m > Megatall
- 1000m > Whatevertall

Could become:
- 200m > Skyscraper
- 300m > Supertall
..... 450m > XSupertall or Supertall+
- 600m > Megatall
..... 800m > XMegatall or Megatall+
- 1000m > Whatevertall

So definitions "X" or "+" would be exactly in the middle between 2 traditional definitions. The X is used for screen resolutions: VGA > XVGA (X meaning eXtended), or clothes sizes: L > XL. And "+" I don't remember where I have seen it, but it looks better for me.

PD: Or, in order to avoid discussions, just create a "Supertalls over 500m" section, without a name
Or just a Megatall section even if there are few projects to keep it simple, and let's hope there will have a lot of new projects and will become very active eventually.
After thinking about it for a while, the Megatall +600m section would be my favourite choice, so we can keep track of every proposed project more easily as they all will be in the first page of the section, now they are lost among a lot of much shorter projects in the proposed supertalls subsection.

Under construction projects could be sticky threads in that section.
Actually all real supertalls under construction could have sticky threads in the current Supertalls section.

I don't care what a megatall is supposed to be, but a +500m section sounds more reasonable. If you have a subforum with too much activity, creating a subforum to relieve the former makes no sense if you are supposed to divert <10% of the threads.

The perfect layout would be:

Supertall forums:
-300-399m subforum (likely to host well over 200 threads)
-400-499m subforum (around 100 threads)
-500m+ subforum (around 100 threads)

Forget about pointless terminology, let's be practical.

Start the category at 500m just so it isn't empty. If the forum is still around in 10 or 15 years, perhaps that would be a time to reconsider the classifications.

Today's "Megatall" might be considered commonplace in a few decades, not only at 500m but even at 600m. It takes 650 feet for a building to be considered a "skyscraper" in this forum. A 649 foot building was definitely considered a "skyscraper" a few decades ago. Very few cities had them. But now this forum classifies such buildings as mere "highrises".

Criteria for the categories aren't set in stone; they can change as they have in the past to reflect the new realities. I believe 500m is the right cutoff for a "megatall" today.

Yes, please add a new section called "Megatalls", which for the purposes of this forum, is defined as 500m+ (most posters in this thread prefer the 500m cutoff). A subforum called "Proposed Megatalls" could contain the large number of proposed 500m+ buildings.

I can also suggest an easy way to select "approved" megatalls (or supertalls) by clicking on a "Approved only" checkbox at the top of the page. Many proposed megatalls do not see the light of day and I only follow those which are approved or under construction.

300m is 1.5x 200m, 300m x1.5 is 450m. I think 500m makes more sense.

I've thought about it further and definitely think we should have a section for megatalls at 600 meters.

Less than 150 Meters = Highrise
150 Meters = Skyscraper
300 Meters = Supertall
600 Meters = Megatall
1200 Meters = Ultratall
2400 Meters = Hypertall

To reach the next threshold, the building must be twice the height of the previous plateau. This demonstrates the exponentially greater challenge in laying claim to the first Ultratall and eventually Hypertall.

I think there should be a megatall section.

highrise(100m) + skyscraper(200m) = supertall(300m)

...................... skyscraper(200m) + supertall(300m) = megatall(500m)

................................................ supertall(300m) + megatall(500m) = hypertall(800m)

600+ for me. Megatalls arent common, therefore every such project should be cherished, admired and talked about. What I mean is, even if there isn't enough of these, they still deserve a seperate section.
