Kingkey want to finish compensation payments this year and begin to redevelop the old caiwuwei area by early 2017. foundation construction would begin in late 2017 and the entire area would be fully developed by 2021.

Both towers are supposed to be around 700m tall but this is not finalized yet.

If Nexus shorter tower is 347m tall then the six concept towers around it are all 290-350m.

The Kingkey tower will be totally dwarfed by these giants.
This new megatall could become one of my favorites. It looks amazing.

On gaoloumi.com the both threads, this and Nexus are united in one thread with title:

Report on the Building - Caiwuwei overall urban renewal area "739m / 169F + 700m / 134F + 4X350m + 3X320m + 8X250m"

9 supertalls and 8 more 250m+,if built this would become the most epic piece of urban redevelopment in modern history

If the finance center was cut back because of the airport, what makes them believe this will be allowed?

its 5km further away from the airport, also the 700m+ limit hasnt been approved yet,but the city government wants to redevelop most of the old city core in Luohu, maybe less height regulation is a good way to lure investment back into the old city centre.

this is further from the airport than ping an, worst case scenario would be a citywide cut at 600m, which i can not think of a reason for at all.

If true, I hope the non-megatall supertalls get decent designs, too, and aren't reduced to bland (but huge) filler.

Yes, and if HK and SZ merge in 2047, it will be the most vertical metropolis on earth.

It's not just HK and SZ - the entire Pearl River Delta is already merging and in 2047 will form a megacity never seen before.

True. I think though there's a large question mark now over how the New Territories are developed or not as the case may be. That's the deciding factor whether we see one HK-SZ metro or a continuation of two separate cities.

true, but I don't think it is so much about distance from the airport as it is about managing the airspace, height restrictions usually are more about where airplanes are allocated airspace in relation to the airport, 5 km for an airplane flying at 4-500 km/h is a very short amount of time in distance. In a very crowded airspace you want to avoid obstacles as much as possible so you can manage more planes flying at different altitudes.

Ping An is probably the biggest disappointment between render and reality in my lifetime. I honestly expected it to be my favorite tower in the world, and instead I hate it. That spire really meant everything for the finished product.

I'll believe this new one is true when I see it, and not a moment before.

Foshan-Guangzhou and Dongguan-Shenzhen merged into one city a few years back, which is why it's now considered the world's largest having officially overtaken Tokyo last year with 41 million urbanites (not to be confused with a metro, which would be 55 million).
